rock is crushed really fine and then treated with acid so the metal crystals are clean and stick to an oily chemical. The they're washed with that oily chemical and air pumped through them to make bubbles of a similar size. These bubble attach to the oil and float the metal to the surface. Because different metals have different weights and the bubbles are all the same size you can classify the metals by weight based on how soon they float.

once classified it's just a matter of skimming off each metal by weight

the metal floats to the surface and is sorted by weight or time... how long it takes to float.

its old tech developed in the 18th century, but yes even with all our modern know how odd things still happen where we have zero clue whats going on. One issue that pops up from time to time is known as "particle peanut problem", in which any near elemental metal particles take on the grain shape of a peanut, and become very difficult to float. and that's the upshot.

no process gets 100% of the metal
flotation throws away about 10% of the mined silver and gold

but 10% lost is better than amalgamation, cyanide leaching, or chlorine vat dissolution.

no process is ever perfect. We always throw away some metals. Flotation is just extremely cheap, relatively safe, environmentally benign, and effective enough to make money

Deflation fags (milkshake theory) think that because the fed does asset swaps with banks and keeps the dollars in reserves, not put into circulation, there will be no inflation. How stupid do you have to be to think that the the federal reserve wont function to achieve the goal that it was established for in 1913, namely, stealing from us? Look at shadowstats inflation statistics, chapwoodindex.com. The many money laundering schemes filter the money down into the economy through pic related at a rate of 10% every year. They are stealing 10% of the economy every year. Now that they have that, it will never stop. You think they're just going to give up that hardly won cash flow which is used to fund the Great ResetTM and let deflation occur? That's what deflation means. It will never happen. Everything will consistently get worse every year in order to boil the frog slowly until every bit of life giving juices are boiled from its flesh.

So angry. It’s pretty simple. Money is loaned into existence. When debt is repaid money is destroyed. Interest means there is always more debt than money. Look at debt to money ratios. The debt cannot be paid back. Ever. So as debt is serviced, money is destroyed. This is why interest rates keep falling. If the process continues we will see hyper deflation. The only way to stop it is to go full MMT and just spend dollars into existence at treasury level.

QE buys assets and inflates their prices by reducing the pool of assets. But they pay for it with fake money, bank reserves, which can’t be spent. We are going towards deflation unless they spend money into existence.

>they pay for it with fake money, bank reserves, which can’t be spent
That's just obviously fake. They are obviously not doing that based on inflation statistics. You think they just print money and erect this massive money laundering/banking scheme to obscure the flow of the dollars they print into the economy but they can't use those dollars just because they say they can't? Right so they are an exploration + development company with a handful of properties around Mexico, plus one in Nevada and one in Guatemala. The company is debt-free and has very robust financials. Their flagship asset Metates in Mexico has great mineral reserves (proven, probable): 18.5Moz Au, 526Moz Ag, 4.1Blbs Zn (Worth noting is that these are only the RESERVES, there's more ore in the RESOURCES category). The project has an updated 2016 PFS done, boasting low sustained costs (AISC $662/oz Au) thanks to the open-pit nature of the deposit, 27 to 37 life of mine and annual production of 445koz Au, 9Moz Ag and 88Mlbs Zn. Metates is easily a world-class asset. However, they still have a lot of work to do as the initial CAPEX will be huge -- $4.2 BILLION.
Comparing Metates to Kinross for example, Metates alone has 18Moz Au reserves while Kinross has 26Moz Au reserves. So this is a major-scale project. The economics of Metates are good, with after-tax NPV5 of $1.8B and after-tax IRR of 11.3%, with only $1,400/oz Au price of gold. With current prices it's already a lot better than those estimates and with rising PM prices this project will be very profitable, and the high zinc production is a nice balancing factor too. Really it's the huge initial capital costs that are the biggest problem for the project.

Their Nevada project Talapoosa, of which they hold 75% interest, hosts 1.2Moz Au, 16Moz Ag and a 2015 PEA study that assumes prices of only $1,150/oz Au, $16oz/Ag estimates after-tax NPV5 of $136M and after-tax IRR 39% -- with a doubled gold/silver price these estimates will easily be more than doubled. Talapoosa also has more room for resource expansion via exploration. While developing their main flagship asset they're continuing exploration work in their other properties. Their other properties look very promising too.

Sprott invested in August, stating that he has a "long-term view of the investment". Probably >5y till production

I think it’s time that /pmg/ split into two different threads, one focused solely on physical and one focused solely on miners. For months the thread has been dominated by discussion of miners with almost no discussion of physical. I propose that the new thread be called /mmg/- Metal miners general and focuses on mining of not just gold and silver but all metals. I also think /pmg/ should delve deeper into foreign coins and numismatics as well as bullion, since there’s many people here with more of an interest in old coins than miners. What say you /pmg/?

A) Is total debt decreasing, or ever-expanding?

B) Will gov let people default on debts and shred money, or will they start debt forgiveness programs?

C) Will they start sending checks if the previous two things aren't enough?

I'll answer for you, because you won't:

A: The later. The fed will start giving loans directly if the banks wont.
B: Guess what they're already talking about re student loans? Mortgages soon.
C: Obviously, yes, and they will formalize as an automatic process done by the treasury & fed when these stimulus payments are more frequently needed.

I'm so fucking sick of this "deflation" shit. It's just the same talking points every time and no answer for the above. I swear I'm gonna have to make a pasta and just post it every thread until you at least attempt a counterargument.

I should elaborate. In this scenario gold is $5000. Silver is $500.
You sell the dealer 10 silver eagles $5000 in dealer credit. End of transaction. Then you buy 1 gold maple for $5000. With dealer credit. New receipt. Cash never moves. Dealer is happy. You are happy. You now have a gold eagle and 2 receipts. 1 for a sell. Toss that. And a buy receipt for a gold eagle at $5000

Correction: the initial CAPEX in the updated PFS is "only" $3.5B, not $4.2B. That's a lot better but still not a small amount at all. Also, here's some valuation estimation that I did.
Price to Net Asset Value (P/NAV) ratio: Market cap $227M / ( Metates NPV5 $1.8B + Talapoosa NPV5 $136M ) = ~0.117x meaning the share price is very undervalued when you take into account their projects' estimated value. Worth noting is that these projects are likely going to have more ore than what is included in their value estimates, plus the value estimates assume lower metal prices. This means that (provided gold/silver don't go lower) these projects are worth a lot more than is estimated, both in terms of estimated production and the value of the ore they mine.

If gold and silver stay high and go even higher in the long term (>10 years), this company's shares will be an amazing asset to hold. But again, it's a very long-term investment as they're a long way from production. Also they will have to raise a lot of capital, meaning that shareholders could be substantially diluted in time. Warrants would probably be the best way to invest in this company because of that.

Absolutely based. We are reaching a point where the graph goes to negative or positive infinity. It makes no difference really, but thinking about it in terms of your dollar losing purchasing power to 0, hyperinflation, is most intuitive. Deflation could occur if people were actually repaying debt in large enough amounts that the entire money supply got paid back and there's still debt left over, but we know that the debt will never be repaid so, the money supply just circulates and the debt remains. Deflation will never occur the way >>24650368 is saying. That would mean everybody fighting over the last dollar to pay back their debts with, the ultimately valued dollar, but at that point everybody would know the dollar is worthless. The USD will be hyperinflated to nothing, people won't be fighting to get it to pay back their debts

Yeah if they come out with long-dated (>5y) warrants those might be worth buying. But honestly yeah those CAPEX costs are the Achilles' Heel of Metates, kind of risky to go for shares plus prices can go all over the place during the development of the mine. Of course if they do a lot of exploration and development on their other properties they might create a lot of value to offset dilution, maybe even start up a mine at Talapoosa to get some cashflow before beginning mine development at Metates. Might be worth looking into but honestly I've my eyes on a little shorter term investments, if I was a little, MMMM richer I'd probably put some powder into this company though

You need to have more than "suspecting" hyper deflation to make this argument, you need to lay out at least semi-plausible reasoning for why government will sit on their hands long enough for the market to be convinced intervention isn't coming and deflation is, so you can get your cheapies. It will create such a divide overtime that it will get irreconcilable. I am all for more mining info to be talked about. One of the other great people on PMG is PANMAN which is mostly in the mining sector and I respect him a lot. If we can get through this tribulation together, then no amount of crypto shilling will stop us from this point on.

Let's say the total money supply is 999 paper dollar bills. The amount of debt that has been conjured into existence through trickery and qabbalistic magic is 1000. 999-1000 is -1. That means there will be one less dollar than everybody needs to collectively pay back their debt, so they will fight over the last dollar. Unless everybody just says, "fuck it might as well keep my money and not pay back the debt" and the banker works out a debt forgiveness arrangement to make them a slave for eternity in exchange for forgiving their debt. At that point you're not going to need dollars anymore, so ultimately deflation and inflation merge into one endpoint; The Great Reset. That's what we're looking at except obviously the ratio of debt to money supply is much worse.

As someone with hardly any interest in aquiring miners right now and the miner talk can be a bit blah sometimes, I love seeing panmans rock porn. I don't necessarily agree with this. If you have a thread specifically for precious metals only, I don't think there would be very much interesting traffic at all. Most postings would be of people's photographs of their PMs and questions from newbies that are answered in the pastebins. PMs aren't complicated and the most difficult thing about them is ignoring all the lies (FUD and hype). There maybe little enough traffic that the thread gets auto archived or drops past page 10.

The miner company stocks are related to the PMs and are a much more dynamic thing to discuss as drill results, project management, M&A, and general management greatly influence movement of the stocks. I'm practically certain that the real money will be made in the mining stocks, assuming one has the balls to invest a large quantity of money in the mining stocks, avoid the landmines, and sells before the cycle ends. That's a very difficult thing to do and good quality discussions may improve our chances of getting it right. FWIW, I was late entering the first PM cycles in the 2000s and stayed at the party too long and thus ended up making essentially zero profit (I didn't lose any money either).

I agree. I'm sorry for the name calling. I like Pan Man talking about his excursions in beautiful scenic places, I like economic discussion keynesianism vs austrianism, I like stacking, I like a little bit of mining stock analysis like with Pan Man's miner lists that he has updated, and some other people giving their opinions on new discoveries and so on. But what we have right now is WAY too one sided. There needs to be some sort of compromise. It is possible to have a fast moving thread the way I'm describing, I know because it was very healthy self sustaining and on the first few pages most of the time while being a much different constitution of posts from what it is now.

I do agree, but I still allow people to have a free choice. It is like telling a best friend something. You can tell them not to go do drugs, smash into their room to confiscate, but if they still want to do it. You have to let them at a certain point so you can help them when they need it.

Same. It is like what you say in family. You bear through each others falts, and disinterests since a cohesive whole is better than fragmented parts. Imagine nations where they split, how did they fair? It is the same here. Can you function in life without your hands? Can you function in life without your feet? No? That is the same with miners and stackers. We both need each other even though we might glaze our eyes over the info.

Bordergold and the coinhunter/silver maple.ca have the best premiums I have seen, but you pay like 15-30 bucks for shipping, and they have very limited selection. There are also a number of numismatic options like colonial acres with tons of selection, but meh prices. The mining stock pumping is bad but I don't think anything can be worse than the cryptocurrency pumping. At least the mining companies are businesses and, assuming they're not outright frauds (a la BRE-X), they should ultimately make money if the geologists did their jobs and the PM is reasonably good. The only question, then, it what an appropriate valuation of the company is.

I think some commentary about general market sentiment might be useful, too, as indicators of when to buy and when to sell. I subscribe to certain newsletters and one with a very good multi-decade, track record has stated that it believes that the platinum bear market is over. That was stated at the start of this month and platinum went straight up about 9% before getting hit for about 3% the past two or three days.

I wrote a posting a few months ago telling people to create a selling plan for their precious metals: At what price, which bars or coins, and to whom. Without this plan, there's good risk that a high could be missed and people ride the price back down. In 2011, I didn't have this plan and missed the selling opportunity in silver when I could have sold at $46/oz or so.

According to the guy from whom I bought it it's probably of Portuguese handicraft. He had a couple others that were clearly made by the same hands. The guy also had many other junk silver items and artefacts. Had some Russian silver, some I assume Finnish/Swedish silver. A lot of forks and knives and the like too. We had a nice short discussion about patina, I stated that I'm very much of the opinion that patina is of utmost importance in silver items, he echoed my statement by saying that some patina is needed to create a more three-dimensional look for the decorations of this specific piece. He told me that there are people of both schools so to speak, that for some people clear and shiny silver is important. It's important for many to have clean silver for things you actually use though. He also told me about selling these silver items to rich Russian oligarchs -- it's important to keep the patina for those guys because they're not knowledgeable in these silver items. It looks more valuable to them if it looks worn and old and they're willing to pay nice sums of money to get their status-propping Sterling.
