I had 70k at the peak of the defi craze in august, from an initial 8k investement.
Then I became too greedy and blew 5 bitcoins away by playing with margin. I felt like shit for like 2 weeks (those would be worth close to $100k right now).
But you eventually get over it. I still have a portfolio worth $25k, which is still 3x my initial investment and I already cashed out $5k, and all my coins have been going up a lot.

I definitely learnt some important lessons about risk management: don't get too greedy and cash out some profits on the way up, don't try to counter trade to try to get your money back after a bad trade and avoid playing with margin as much as possible.

Only time I ever took a loss was back in March when I played with stock options. The easiest way to recover from losses is to not take losses in the first place, by only investing in solid projects and not selling when you're in the red.

Read some books on investing: The Richest Man in Babylon, The Intelligent Investor, etc.

You can still sue him and get a judgment against him. It's far more likely he'll settle out of court than try to dodge justice in his boat, that's a great way to get picked up by the coasties.
