Alright. So I just graduated from college and I am about to start making decent money for once in my godamn pathetic life. And the first thing I need to do is definitely buy a car. The one I currently have will probably not even last another six months. So I'm gonna go ahead and ask the age-old ultimate question. Finance vs Lease?

If you can find a decent used take it. Know what to look for.

Certified pre-owned, about 3 years old is really the most based option. The payments are affordable, the car is new enough, and zero maintenance. You can usually buy an extended warranty, which covers fucking everything for a relatively minimal cost.

I love these little moments on /biz/ where I give someone a tip that will probably dramatically change their life. Benefits of a car about 3 years old are,
50-60% of MSRP
Still essentially brand new, so long as they changed the oil literally like fucking three times
100% in style, modern, so you get the respect of having a "new" car WHICH MATTERS WHEN PULLING UP TO A JOB INTERVIEW ETC
They're usually under warranty and if not, this is why you're buying certified pre owned from the dealership.. usually, it's only like $1000-$1500 extra to take you up to like, 100,000 miles.
Just show up with that $4000 some Anon said above, and your monthly payments won't be killer, and your entire life will change because you're no longer concerned with the fear of breaking down randomly etc.
Cars are just like houses and women, don't get them when they're too young, don't get them when they're too old and you'll be happy. They're all meant to be enjoyed.
You only have one life Anon. Invest in yourself.

Finance. Under very specific circumstances is leasing preferable, so finance.
Look into certified used cars (honda is my go-to), accumulate the biggest down payment you can and the shortest term financing, avoid any extra stuff except maybe the expanded warranty, it is a crap shoot if it is worth it or not. Look for a 3-4 year old car with low mileage ~35k. Expect to trade it in in about 6 years. Did this for the third time this year. Financing was 1%, trade in was 5k, down was 6, remainder was 8.

Almost always cheaper to fix what you have. Bad idea to start spending as soon as you get a raise.

That being said, my preference is lease, IF you get a good deal. The bank has a better idea of what the car will be worth in 36mo than you do, and if they are wrong they will be the ones holding the bag not you.

Whatever you do don't get financing that will lead to you being upside down and out of warranty.

Used doesn't seem like a good deal right now.

Just buy another used car and baby the shit out of it retard. Anyone who finances for a depreciating asset is a complete dipshit. I'm a mechanic, let me tell you, the people who need
>A RELIABLE VEHICLE
Will never ever ever ever own one. Every vehicle is reliable up to 200k miles if it's given proper preventative maintenance. You can literally learn about this shit for free on youtube.
A can of sea foam and a new undercoating of rubber paint goes a long fucking way.

buy a 150K mile sedan for 4 grand. You've got another 50k miles on it easily.

Or you could buy a brand new sedan for 25 grand like a retard (with interest going to Mr. Shekleburg) and sell it like a retard as soon as you own it at 150,000 miles.

Math,
50000/4000 =12.5 miles to the dollar
150000/25000 = 6 miles to the dollar.

even if you buy a nice car for $2000 that needs work, you could put $2000 in repairs onto it and that shit will last you many years. The important part is DONT BUY CRAP. Find a GOOD mechanic who will tell you about what a car needs, find a used car that passes your visual inspection (little to no rust, no obvious problems), then bring it to him and ask how much money you'd need to fix it up. Then either buy it and fix it or repeat until you find a good deal.
