I would say the most degenerate thing I noticed about the philippines was the ubiquitous child sexual abuse, and how it is ignored by families due to:

1) nonexistant child protective services
2) zero welfare support
3) total dependence on the breadwinner/s who may be involved in the child abuse
4) worthless police/judical system
5) culture

Several lower-lower middle class woman I dated was either victim of it herself, or knew someone who was a victim, and was fairly vocal about how terribly common it is, once the subject matter was touched on.

Families are large and live in close quarters. Older brothers, uncles, fathers very commonly take liberties with their younger female relatives until they get old enough to fight them off. There are so many family members that one bad actor can have several victims, and is basically immune from criticism due to being the only one with an income.

Of course its not every family, but it is insanely common. Philippines has one of the highest early teenage pregnancy rates in the world, and the highest rate of incestous births in the region.

There is also the plague of single mothers who wind up letting their breadwinning partner abuse their children due to not having any income of their own, such abuse going unreported and unpunished due to zero recourse or oversight.

It's a very fucked up place, and it creates a very fucked up people who are victimized through their entire lives and are easy to exploit by degenerate foreigners.
