I went with my gut, since I'm not smart enough to analyze these things. I hate Charles Hoskinson and I hate Emin Gun Sirer. Given how obviously smart Vitalik is, if he is not immediately all over the theory behind these things dissecting them into minute detail, I assume they are hiding tradeoffs in their shilling speeches.

I don't understand what you are saying. My experience is that if there is a research breakthrough, Vitalik will post about it whether it's good or bad for the current version of ETH as seen by the many rewrites and delays. He hasn't given a ton of attention to AVAX which is why I don't believe it is an actual breakthrough (much like HBAR which was touted as the next thing).
