Another alternative is Uniswap, but it isn't friendly for new traders, search online for guides about it. You'll have to create your own wallet, I suggest Metamask, also buy a Ledger to store your private keys securely.

Coinbase is garbo except as an onramp and for their earn program

I was an early bird on binance and I still use it, but I'm thinking about moving my assets off in the near future.

They actually didn't ask, though they do have IP addresses logged like any other exchange

In order to complete a kyc verification, you'd need to provide a photo ID and iirc, your social as well, much like you had to do for coinbase. Kucoin hasn't made that process mandatory however.
