Hey /biz/ I have 1 ETH to my name that I bought on coinbase with USD. I wanna buy other coins in the future. That being said, is my ONLY method of buying altcoins converting the ETH to BTC and then exchanging whatever amount of BTC is necessary to buy x amount of each alt-coin. Alternatively, is using USD to buy alt coins not an option?

I'm also newfag but from what I understand thusfar it is not possible to USD -> altcoins.
I'm not sure if it's possible to ETH -> altcoins.
I know for sure you can BTC ->altcoins.

Usually I send currency between exchanges with something that has really low fees. Doge has worked out well for this task. LDoge is even better but is not accepted everywhere.

Majority of alt-coins can only be bought while trading BTC. The other ones that you can buy with USD, the sites you buy them from have ridiculous hidden costs behind the upfront fees you see and I found that out the hard way by magically losing $17 on a $50 buy with changeally.com Not a major loss at all compared to the other stories I read afterwards but I took it as lesson to just buy through coinbase and move them as needed.
