I know I'm posting in a troll thread, but a suspension cable is not a parabola. It's a hyperbolic function like cosh or something.

it doesnt matter what the function is, an 80m cable can only go 80 meters in the vertical + horizontal directions, because you have the vertical distance the cable runs 2x40m you can easily get the horizontal is 0

The question is bologna because
>>24314780
The poles can't be 50m tall if the cable is 80m long meeting 10m above the ground in the middle between the two poles. That would be 40m length of cable on either side. 50m height of the pole minus the 10m height of means that the height from top to bottom of the cable would be 40m. Taking the top 40m of the the pole and running to the lowest point of the cable forms a right triangle. The side of the triangle formed would have to exceed 40m in order for it to be a triangle in the first place, yet here we are with 40m being the length of the relevant segment of cable. It's even more bologna when you consider the bend in the cable.

have a degree in math, i barely remember hearing about catenary equations. did a quick approximation with pythagorean theorem and i suspected this was another dumb kike trick question, and the video solution confirms this.

tl;dr the poles would have to occupy the exact same space and the cable would also have to travel through that exact same space and bend at a 360 degree angle in order for this problem to be "real" with an answer of 0m

I am thinking:
50 * X = Integral df(x) + inverse Integral df(x)
Then just solve for X.
(Perhaps inverse Integral isn't a thing, but I mean the integral which gets the area above the line.)

Don't know how to define f(x) though, but shouldn't you be able to do that here?

>> No.24316659

The question didn't ask for an answer in any particular unit. I chose to answer in a unit of my own creation, one of which is equal to the distance between the two poles. Therefore, the answer in my unit is 1.

Around 0 I think.
If we make an approximate triangle for one half, the one side is 40 and the hypotenuse is 40. According to Pythagoras, the length of the bottom half is around 0.
