Essentially for now they are PoS nodes that give block rewards (9XSN per 36 hours roughly), but when the DEX is released and migrated onto the masternodes they will provide liquidity for trades, as well as running the exchange. They will receive a trading fee at this point, whilst some of the fee is burnt.
