How much money do you invest per month?

>> No.24276911

>>24276872
Unironically $10k

>> No.24277013

I make $2000 a month and invest $200 to $800 of it. Not much but I'm 21 and it will be a home down payment in a few years.

>> No.24277369

About $6k. I only get paid once a month which sucks. And of course the market always tops on payday, so I get cucked and don't have fiat left to buy dips and have to wait another month. Fucking bogs.

>> No.24277439

> 10k/mo pre-tax income
> after taxes, 7k
> after rent, 6k
> after utilities/food, 5.5k
> after miscellaneous expenditures (office supplies, home decor, cleaning supplies, etc), 5k
Basically everything at that point ends up in some investment account.

what are you studying? I get $2300 when I teach and ~$2600 when I'm on research funds (fucked up world isn't it? I always have to do research, I literally get paid less for doing more work by teaching)

Spend about $1100 on apartment + utilities, about $200 - $300 a month on food, save about $1000 a month

but I'll be making big bucks when I graduate

How are you spending $1k a month bro?

What field are you in? USA?

>> No.24278137

I'm not really spending it. That $1000 is a low estimate, I only invest a bit systematically, the rest I send over to brokerages/exchanges in big lumps when I want to rearrange my portfolio distribution.
>What field are you in?
I'm doing stuff with medical signal processing, my degree track is all signals processing/control systems and the like.
and yeah I'm the US
what subfield are you in lad?

>> No.24278503

>>24278137
I'm on the comm/signal processing end, doing some audio compression stuff atm, but in general work on the information theory/compression/machine learning/optimization spectrum

how long till you graduate?

Yeah I'm more or less studying the same sort of things in my classes, lots of ML/info. theory/comms classes. There is a lot of overlap between medical imaging and communication systems desu.
I was supposed to graduate with my M.Sc this semester but coronachan fucked me. I've gotta do a lot of stuff in the lab, as well as needing patients and (grotesquely) their organs for my thesis, but the lab shut down for a while and patient enrollment was put on hold. Looks like there might be another shut down on that soon too, which fucking blows.
Have far along are you?

damn I know that feel, I was in the same boat, they cancelled quals earlier this year because of corona, couldn't take it until the start of this quarter, finally getting my M.S. next month

I'm going into my 4th year now, no idea how I'll graduate within the next year or two, I only have 2 second author papers (and a first author from my undergraduate), shit blows

But I know things will be awesome after graduation, I know someone who was just hired at Google at around ~$250k/year STARTING

How ahead are you on the papers end?

>Google at around ~$250k/year STARTING
damn nice, don't know if my conscience would let me work for google tho.
I had some sweet internships with a major corporation that does medical imaging stuff. I hope that works out, only problem is their offices are all in super expensive areas (San Jose, Seattle, NY).
>How ahead are you on the papers end?
I have 3 2nd author publications, I'm just about done with my first 1st author paper tho and the abstract was accepted for a talk and all that, so should probably be a sure thing.

I think corona is going to cause lots of tech places to let people work from home permanently. Heard Apple is basically like that now

>I'm just about done with my first 1st author paper tho and the abstract was accepted for a talk and all that, so should probably be a sure thing.

nice dude, congrats, people tell me the first one is hardest, I'm working on something now with a clear idea, just not sure if it'll give us the results we expect

That'd be sweet, paying $2500/mth (cheapest I could get that wasn't just a fucking couch) for a shitty apartment in San Jose was horrific.

best of luck my man, guess that's the research of research tho, you never really know beforehand.
