I don't get it, let's say you have 70k to spend. Right now that will get you roughly:

-4600 link

or

-3.5 BTC

Let's assume BTC goes to 100k this bull run, & link hits 100

4600 x 100 = 460,000
3.5 x 100,000 = 350,000

Why do people even hold btc???

Link bro, if btc is pushing $100k link will already be pushing $200

Pretty crazy 4600 link used to be worth $900 back in the day, crazy how newfags are priced out.

That's my point, and then in the example above you'd have $920,000, whereas if you'd bought btc you'd only have $350,000

Because BTC has a realitvely low chance of going to 0.
For millionaires just holding value is good enough.

Lower risk.

It's a fair assumption though. In that forbes article it quotes Sergey as saying he thinks BTC will hit 100k this cycle, so yes it's an assumption & for sure one with link, but it's not a crazy assumption

Come on, link is hardly a risk at this point with 300+ integrations etc

Its not certain how link will behave against a btc bull. I could imagine that wales will sell of link for btc/eth. Also the value proposition is not really there for normies, because link is just price feeds for now, btc is digital gold and eth the world computer, both sounds more substantial (and it is right now) against link.

I used to think like this but recently I've been doubting it. LINK is still relatively unknown, most of the crypto community bought the fud and LINK doesn't get enough positive attention. Unless Sergey and Co start stepping up to release stuff beyond price feeds + ramp up marketing, I think we might end up doing poorly again in this run. Sad but true.

Wont the usage of the network be enough though? Especially when staking comes out

We are still very early to what is promised by the link network. So I guess this cycle link will profit but inelastic demand will embody when multinationals will adopt link outside of PoC only (probably 2023+). I might be wrong tho.

No one can tell. In crypto literally everything is speculation. It doesn't matter if Chainlink has the most active github, best devs developing the best approach to the current number one problem in blockchain, nothing matters. All that matters is hype and LINK does not have nearly enough of that.

I think it just has to do with risk/reward.

Most rebbidumbs and people new to the scene see tokens like LINK as having a huge risk (we know by now that's not the case). Therefore they prefer investing in a "safer" cryptocurrency, the original, Bitcoin.

Shitcoins can peter out and die at any minute. Of course anybody that's been on /biz/ long enough knows LINK is different. But I'm assuming the majority of the crypto world still sees ERC-20 tokens and other cryptos as scams/risky investments.

Link still hasn't had a real competitor it could prove against. There might come a better solution for the oracle problem, Sergey might have a stroke, Link has not fully proved it's worth yet.
That's the thing. The cryptos all have to prove their worth and Bitcoin forever has the advantage of first mover advantage and history. Bitcoin has had many competitors and has consistently beat them all and the longer Bitcoin continues exists this way the more trust will be put into it. It's the very principle of the Blockchain and it's the thing Alrcoiners don't understand how "old tech" can beat everything else.

Thanks anon I agree. It's messed up though cause I just assume link is obvious to everyone & forget I only realise that cause of biz
