Is $1000 too small of an amount to bother? I bled about $4000 over a couple weeks betting hard on a Biden win and contested election, nationwide lockdowns, and nasty vaccine side effects. Two out of four happened so far, yet this gay market is fucking booming. I'm thinking of pulling out completely, buy a bike for work, maybe a pair of pants to replace the single pair of jeans I've been wearing daily for 4 years and a houseplant, and return with more savings in a couple months, then do pseudo-boomer investing

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/nordstrom-swings-to-q3-profit-leaning-on-online-sales-2020-11-24
>Nordstrom said it earned $53 million in the quarter, or 34 cents a share, which included an income-tax benefit of $19 million associated with the CARES Act.

Is this reason why earnings have been so high for the past two quarters? I noticed this trend in Q2 results when sales reported were pretty much the same as previous year but eps was nearly double and stocks were rising fast due to it. But if this is true, when the economy returns to normal next year and there are no more shenanigans in accounting won't this drop massively the value of stocks? Doesn't look sustainable.

Some analysts are claiming that if things really do reopen then "pent up demand" might drive record profit.
Now I'm not exactly sure of that because I'm not sure that "pent up demand" has ever really surfaced in any given market. If there's a demand, people are getting it out one way or another (such as with internet purchases, which is why those companies have mooned this year).

Im a complete mess anons. Half my portfolio is invested, the other is not. I keep missing out on memes that pump and by the time i get in it already feels too late. Even though im up it feels like im running out of opportunities, big quick gains compared to slow and steady 2019 movements.

Ive been acting recklessly the last few days. Including buying high, selling low multiple times on stuff im interested in. Ive lost maybe $200 cause of that behavior. Only reason om selling so soon is cause im lookong for quicker gains. But somehow im timing a sell at the bottom of the day and buying at the top of the day often or at least close to it. What pisses me off even more is that when i jump into options the algos always screw me over. If i want to buy i basically move well in favor of ask. If i want to sell i have to move well in favor of bid. Are they all algos?

Yes, I think the real "pent up demand" is stuff that can't be used during COVID lockdowns or is avoided by people. Uber, AirBnB, hotels, casinos, travel, etc. Those will go crazy.
Also other stocks that are tangentially related to purchases, such as credit card vendors like Visa, as they get money for each transaction and when people go out they make more individual transactions hoping between stores.

(((green))) energy is a huge meme. Nobody factors in the fact that we'll have to extract a bunch of rare earth metals (along with other materials) to build these or solar. And then you have to manufacturing, transport, and install them. Then you have the waste. The blades from wind farms are not recyclable and solar creates dangerous chemicals.

so how does 'mark' pricing work for extended trading hours. i've googled it to no avail.

for TDA, ive noticed it needs to be a full lot (100) if the share price is over 100, for TDA to mark that price. how exactly is it determined? value of transaction relative to market cap of security? like a $40 SP needs a lot higher quantity, (which is dependent on its cap(?))

The most important thing you can learn as a small investor is that your strategies have to be totally different than big money. They already have millions upon millions, so a 5% gain in a few months is hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. But you can't get away with that because you'll NEVER MAKE IT without 50% gains over and over and over to turn your 10k into a 500k.
The sooner one comes to realize that, the faster they can begin to make money.

Hello /smg/,
I'm looking for a particular kind of stock to invest to. My parameters for it are very specific so I'd appreciate it if you all could help me identify it. I'm looking for a stock that would not only go up in value but it quickly and by a large amount. What I mean is, if I am to put 10 dollars in this stock, it would soon turn into 30, 40 or even 100 dollars. Then I plan to sell all my shares of this stock and keep the profit. Now in order to do this, I'll need a stock that's currently very cheap so that I can buy many shares of it. Under NO circumstances should this stock ever go down in value after | purchase it. That's a deal breaker for me.

What are you trying to say here? Are you denying that non-renewable energy production doesn't cause pollution, environmental degredation, habitat loss, etc?

Here, let me give you an example. Here where I live, in Louisiana we have abundant wetlands. Right now, because of oil and gas extraction, coastal birds are experiencing rapid habitat loss from dredging canals for oil transportation, coastal erosion, sea level rise etc.

Building a wind turbine that offsets the need to keep destroying my coastline

>>24239796
Did you even read my post? Wind turbines kill a negligible amount of wildlife compared to other parts of our urban society. More birds are killed by flying into glass windows pretty much daily than are killed by wind turbines in a year.

Again, Feral fucking cats kill literally BILLIONS of birds every single year. Do you deny this? Why aren't you advocating for rounding up and killing the true killers of birds in our society? Should we demolish all skyscrapers too?

Yes.

The data backs up all my claims. Why are you so ignorant of the evidence?

Fucking airplanes kill more birds per year than wind turbines.

https://www.fws.gov/birds/bird-enthusiasts/threats-to-birds/collisions/wind-turbines.php

>Estimates of bird/turbine collision range widely and all of the studies attempting to quantify this contain some level of bias and uncertainty. The most comprehensive and statistically sound estimates show that bird deaths from turbine collisions are between 140,000 and 500,000 birds per year. As wind energy capacity increases under the DOE’s mandate (a six-fold increase from current levels), statistical models predict that mean bird deaths resulting in collisions with turbines could reach 1.4 million birds/year.

https://www.businessinsider.com/cats-kill-more-birds-than-wind-turbines-despite-trumps-claims-2020-10

>When it comes to bird deaths, cats are unrivaled as the leading cause. Whereas wind turbines only kill about 234,000 birds every year in the United States, felines kill 2.4 billion, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. As of 2017, cats killed more birds than all other human-related causes combined.
>Feral, or "un-owned," cats are largely responsible for this high number, because they spend much of their time outside and hunting for food, according to a 2013 Nature study. Pet cats with access to the outdoors, the research found, killed nearly 684 million birds annually as of the study's publication, a substantial percentage of the total.
