I know they're definitely not doing their own email, since Protonmail is already an existing customer of theirs and also kinda has the market captured on the "secure" mail front. Brave has also consistently denied the intent to do so.

The videoconferencing thing is just Jitsi with their name thrown on it.

The VPN is also super unlikely due to a crowded market, and again, Nord VPN is well liked and also a customer of theirs.

A search engine is maybe possible, but that's about it.

I think the most likely scenario is partnerships allowing BAT to be seamlessly used to purchase memberships with Protonmail, Nord VPN, etc. Also why do you act as if the self-serve/SKU is in limbo, it's literally "SOON". Check the fucking githubs.

Its really quite interesting seeing people that have held for three years being shaken out. The most amount of risk was three years ago, and today is the least amount it has been since inception. Its not like user growth is slowing or github commits have stopped or there are layoffs. Brave is hiring more people, user growth is astronomical, and they are shipping more and more features. Its more than just a search engine. I have already looked through github. They are building their browser to look through keywords in any search query and using bayesian analysis for webpage content. Basically they are building a google adwords replica that works outside of google search on any search query. Its like getting google ad results on amazon or on pinterest. Googles bread and butter on steroids. Then theres the bayesian analysis part. The browser knows what type of content you are interested in similar to facebook.

What this means is there are two ad types. One is for general purpose awareness campaigns which are generally cheaper, and the other is intent based campaigns. The awareness campaigns are just interim campaigns until you look up that keyword like "car dealers" "divorce lawyer" "saltwater fishtank" etc. Advertisers will happily pay billions for anyone that can bring in a client going through a divorce or someone looking for a car.

The search engine is childs play.

I think that is a possibility. I did some extra digging on github and found a lot of new stuff. Im not 100% on this but it looks like brave is building a p2p wallet system similar to venmo. You can link your friends for quick payments. I also found what i think is a promotional claim feature. It appears to be a way for an advertiser or website to essentially set up their own faucet/airdrop and it looks like brave is planning on creating an onboarding experience for people who dont have brave rewards enabled where they can claim a grant to get started.

The last thing I found which im not entirely sure of is a BAT enabled feature of "brave together." I cant tell what the plan is. Some of my thoughts are an e2e zoom competitor, a stream client for paywalled content like seminars,movies,fights or maybe camwhores or everything listed. Pretty interesting stuff.
