Tether is the main on ramp for Chinese. Chinese media started shilling crypto earlier this year. Kraken CEO stated that pumps in tether match institutional demand on his platform. Tether might not have 1:1 backing in cash and cash equivalents but they probably hold crypto that can account for that difference. Why not short tether then? It’s not going to go past a dollar and if you’re correct, it will drop to $0 which will more than cover leverage fees

Tether opens a gate to a lot of exchanges if they are running bots they can get the cheapest prices by biding on a lot of exchanges and all they would need is a single wire to tether instead of to 150 exchages.
