That's mostly for shorter amount of time.
Making money in the long run is really easy, just pick some blue chip growth stocks and sit on it, even with a crash it will most likely come back in less than 2 years if the fundamentals are good.
I'm just an amateur though so keep that in mind.

Do short-term trends actually exist? I tried to detect upward trends by waiting for a price to reach a new low and then waiting for it to bounce back 0.25% (the bright spot on the graph, I superimposed all graphs around that point of detection) but what happens next doesn't follow a trend, it just goes randomly in every direction.

Are there more solid ways to detect a short-term upwards trend that actually go on after you detect it?

For reference, my day job only nets me around 45k per year. I have a variety of positions but have made some modest capital gains so far (only about 1k). If you look at it, it gives you different luminescence...

Relatively short time in the stock market means a week, more realistic a month, you have track stocks for a whole month at least to discover a trend and maybe it'll keep growing for 3, 4 months that's what the macd tracks and give you warnings when macd croses the line it means the stock has entered a down trend and it will start falling.
