There is no effective way to measure inflation.

>gold and silver prices? manipulated
>CPI and oil? ditto
>Chapwood? it’s still a basket of specific consumer bullshit that can rise and fall for a million different specific reasons unrelated to monetary policy
>US dollar index? only measures dollar vs. other fiats, if fiats are falling together it tells you nothing
>money velocity? it’s said to precede price inflation, but doesn’t demonstrate it

That's what the consumer price index is for. However, it's perfectly reasonable to be skeptical of using the CPI as the true measure of inflation.

M2 money stock. That measures how much money is available, and is what really is relevant. Kind of like a dollar market cap. Inflation itself is a snake word to tell you to stop worrying about house prices going up because your nintendo switch costs the same.
