I'll answer your question with this question: Why is any meme inherently popular? In most cases there is nothing special about a pepe or wojak or other meme that makes it a staple form of communication within a group. In many cases it's just a culture that develops that places value on those memes as a form of identity and sense of belonging. You sneed because you want to be considered a part of the group, which in turn causes a cycle of other users posting sneed until the community decides that it no longer wants to use that image (in which case they'll start insulting or complaining about the image, which in turn is its own cycle).

The fact that it's a dumb obscure joke from the Simpsons. Although the joke is clever, it's not very good because it needs to be explained in order to be understood. There's this air of arrogance when you hear the story of the Sneed n' Feed joke being explained. The writers were proud and surprised their joke made it past the censors at Fox, however, it was only because it's a badly written joke - which absolutely no one is going to get, unless it's explained to them.

This back story of the Sneed n' Feed joke gives the reader unresolved emotion which needs an outlet. Memes are a good outlet of this emotion, hence the popularity.
