23819187 No.23819187 [Reply] [Original]

I just found an old Samsung hard drive behind books that I hidden around 10 years ago. I couldn't remember the place it was hidden (I have undiagnosed autism). Please wish me to have at least 100 bitcoins stored there. I remember that I once bought a lot of them on some exchange (unknown name, blue design) and moved to wallet on the drive.

Anyone here can please tell me what exchange it could be? The only thing I remember is blue design (in around 2010 year). There may be some btc, alts left, but for 90% the exchange is not exist or was hacked...

If someone help me to find name of the exchange I can share something if there are any bitcoins. I'll check the drive later this week, I have only acccess to smartphone at this moment.

This is the only chance in my life. I am so excited but also stressed a lot :(

Find the correct exchange likely won’t help you obtain the BTC, as older buys tended to go straight into a private wallet with keys you needed to save. Any chance, there’s some old document on your computer or in a notebook where you may have written down your private keys?

There's a wallet called electrum, download that one and you'll be able to transfer your BTC to a more modern wallet, as the ones from 10 years ago might not be compatible.
BACKUP THE FILES, ESPECIALLY THE WALLET.DAT, REFUSING TO DO SO AND UPDATING ELECTRUM AUTOMATICALLY WILL WIPE THE WALLET. SAVE THE WALLET.DAT FILE SOMEWHERE SAFE.
I want you to make it anon, don't mess this up. People became an hero just by wiping the drive/files accidentally.

Ok read this carefully, you might have 100 btc which is more than 1 million $ and is life changing money, so you need to be autistic about it.
Don't touch the hard drive now, you waited 10 years you can wait a week.
Buy 2 other hdds and clone the hdd you have to the other 2s (I don't know how it's done, but I'd think just mount it and copy paste somewhere else), don't modify anything on it unless you have backed it up.
Do not mount it on a windows pc, why risk it man? there are lots of viruses that scrap your data looking for seed words or private keys using regex, they also scrap external media, you won't know you have them probably since they don't do anything else, again why risk it.
once it's cloned on 2 other hdds, then you start digging, turn your internet off and do as anons have said, try to find wallet.dat, but don't copy it to a usb key if it's not encrypted to take it somewhere else, instead re encrypt it with 7zip if you have it or something (that way even if the passphrase for the wallet.dat is on that same pc as a .txt) it won't be able to upload it when the internet is back on, look hard in that pc to find all the txt backups, don't send them by email or usb, if not long just use pen and paper (put tape on your pc's camera and don't read them out loud).
This is paranoid but you have to be paranoid right now, also don't trust anyone telling you they can help you if you send them a file.

>> No.23821048

>>23820921
>You can leave some contact, in case if the disk will be damaged or deleted, I'll write to you.
This is retarded, just learn to do it yourself, people spend 5 years in university to wagecuck and make less money than you can recover on your hdd, so you must learn everything yourself (you'll probably need kali linux and some tools to dump the hex data of the hdd then search all the strings as hex that resemble a bitcoin seed or private key or wallet.dat), but hopefully it's not damaged, the magnetic hdds don't lose data just sitting on a shelf for years, it's the flash ones that do, so it'll probably be ok.

Here's a link that talks a little bit of the history of the bitcoin wallet. Looks like you can still download the original wallet. But you would need to be super careful and get some good advice about how to do it.

Someone from bitcoin.org might be able to give you good advice? - but like other anons have said - be super careful about trusting anyone.

Hope it works out for you!
