It was a pain in the ass, and it had an EXTREMELY sketchy vibe. I forgot what it was called but there was a craigslist like thing where you could buy btc from people in person. I think that got shut down and some literally innocent guy got thrown in jail for “operating an illegal unloiscensed money services business” . Mt Gox, .. hacked and goxxed ... BTC-E . That’s where you bought your shit coins. There was a trollbox and the site got seized by the FBI. There was so many pitfalls that even if you could send a message to yourself to your past that just says “Buy Bitcoin” you’d probably end up losing it somehow. I only made it through extraordinary luck.
