poor carla jean
anton's character represented death. literal haircut like hood of grim reaper. he wasn't really in any of those scenes. all of his scenes were metaphoric illustrations of those characters struggling with death. they begged and bargained with him, he flipped a coin because it was "the best deal you're going to get..."

I was janny of this board when I was twenty-five years old. Hard to believe. My grandfather was a neckbeard; father too. Me and him was jannies at the same time; him up in /v/ and me out here. I think he's pretty proud of that. I know I was. Some of the old time jannies never even wore a banhammer. A lotta folks find that hard to believe. Jim Scarborough'd never carried one; that's the younger Jim. Gaston Boykins wouldn't wear one up in /a/ board. I always liked to hear about the oldfags. Never missed a chance to do so. You can't help but compare yourself against the oldfags. Can't help but wonder how they would have operated these times.

most posters here are too young to understand that movie. Its about growing old, coming into terms with a society that you cannot make sese anymore.
I watched it when I was 28 back in 2007, couldn't understand shit, coming back to the movie in my early 40s was quite different (I think this board averages at early 20s).

I most agree with that. I think people go a bit too far in over analyzing things. I didn't understand it much when I was young but what I got from it is that times change but people barely change; at least from the old mans speech. I'm in my mid 20's, so I'll definitely have to rewatch when I'm in my 30's and then 40's.

It wouldn't make much sense if the character that was murdering everyone who crossed his path as an obstacle/annoyance (Except those who had moral integrity like the clerk at the motel) wasn't actually real and he was just an elaborate metaphor.

I think whether Anton was real or Ed's encounter of him was real or not is irrelevant. The movie was about Ed Tom, through and through. It is about growing old, and not being able to keep up with times.

There comes a time in your life that you really cannot make sense of the present world. In mid 20s you get the first signs of it, how the culture doesn't target you anymore, you being pushed out of the targeted youth demographic 14-24. But this feel really hits you post 35. It will probably hit me far more in 50s-60s etc.

People always joked that there will be blood and no country for old men should have their names switch but I disagree. The title of the movie is quite on point.

its how art works tho....fundamental truths / profound ideas are wrapped up in a narrative so normies can process. also see: the bible
>>23753956
precisely. that is evidenced that the final scene of movie. about ed tom dream about his father...how is father is out there in all that cold and all that dark....

its why the movie reasonates so much with people. cormac maccarthy is a fucking god of a writer. The Road (book not movie) is the most soul crushing sad book i've ever encountered.

I never thought of it being about Ed, but that's deep and makes sense. This modern culture is very alienated, I felt alienated from mainstream culture since I graduated from High school. Things people are into just aren't interesting and I can see political motivations behind a lot of it. A lot of people my age just nostalgia binge and rewatch old shows/movies from their childhood. I try to do that but also older movies; quality in cinema has declined to a point where I wonder if I'm the dumb/antisocial one for not being into the shit people like.

i'm an old fag.
at this point the only media i can stand to watch is old westerns....fucking bonanza tv re-runs, etc.
pretty soon it starts to sink in that you live in a foreign culture. they've propagandized you that what you see around you if authentically part of you....but none of it is actually your culture, from your people. its way the older you get you stop being able to consume new media, the gap becomes too wide

I think it just implied that shit happens all the time, we're not the one controlling things. Growing old, you'll soon realize this. It's mostly pure nihilism shit going on like any other Coen brothers movies are.
