Welcome to XMR General, dedicated to discussion of the world's leading privacy-coin!
Because Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, people can easily send money despite corrupt and broken governments or banks. This provides economic empowerment of individuals in oppressive countries or depressed economies.
Private financial history protects consumers and companies from price manipulation, supply chain exploitation, economic discrimination, or the like. Monero is the only cryptocurrency that has the features to serve as completely fungible, decentralized, electronic cash.
If you're new, feel free to ask any questions you like and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

Im new to monero and I'm lucky to be living in a place with 3 monero ATMs in 30minutes drive proximity.
Redpill me on why I should store my money in monero? If some government would ban it, wouldn't it lose value because it would scare off institutions ?

Is monero somewhat decoupled from btc ?

what happens if I use monero on my windows 10 laptop without downloading their blockchain, is that secure enough? (probably not because of 3rd party server hosting)

Thanks for taking your time I'd really appreciate it if you could answer some if not all quetions, yes I'm a newfag to monero I've been sleeping on monero for 5 years despite doing "business" online.

Monero is not backed by these Institutions or any bank. Monero is backed by Darkweb and the technology by the coin itself. The darkweb will always exist and will grow popularity with all these shills on tiktok and social media. Just look at the picture I posted then you will understand why Monero will always be on the top

Let me take a guess: You live in Netherlands? You might not answer this for infosec reasons. I'm not so lucky and only have a few BTC ATMs in my town.

>Is monero somewhat decoupled from btc ?
If Bitcoin goes up, Alts go up. If Bitcoin goes down, everything goes down, too. That's the rule, so far. It might change in the future.

Regarding your other questions: Lol, I have no clue, mate.

>Redpill me on why I should store my money in monero?
It's like Bitcoin but private. Nothing more to be said. I can't send you Monero and then look at your wallet and all your transactions. If you don't believe in the project as much as Bitcoin, you can always hold Bitcoin and use Monero. Most Monero chads think that Monero's BTC ratio will appreciate though.
> If some government would ban it, wouldn't it lose value because it would scare off institutions ?
Monero's value is that it is a cryptocurrency that is fungible. It will always be needed in situations where Bitcoin fails, such as the dark net. Also Monero can't really be "banned". Certain authoritarian countries can make it more difficult to on ramp to it, but as long as you have internet you will be able to get Monero. Over time, we expect Monero's clout to rise as more people find out about a faster and more private alternative to Bitcoin that is less valued.
>Is monero somewhat decoupled from btc ?
Monero has had a great year but our BTC ratio is not where it should be. We expect the ratio to grow greatly during the next bull run. We peaked at 0.03BTC last bull run, and a lot of us Monero chads expect higher.
>what happens if I use monero on my windows 10 laptop without downloading their blockchain, is that secure enough
It's secure. Downloading the blockchain is definitely recommended but you can get away with using a light wallet or by connecting remotely.

Monero is going to be the majority coin of use on the darknet within the year. It is already trending heavily in that direction, but it takes time to onboard noobs. The darknet is a bellweather and will signify Monero being more useful than Bitcoin, which is a big story for cryptocurrency.

I think XMR will always be a fraction of BTC's value because normies don't give a fuck about privacy but it's the only altcoin I haven't dumped and don't plan to. I think longterm, Bitcoin will keep improving on privacy but on-chain fungibility is hard to beat.

>> No.23721586

I think Bitcoin is more-or-less giving up on privacy. They would have to hard fork to get even a quarter of the privacy Monero has.
And that is totally fine. Bitcoin will be the trendsetter for the lightning network and beyond. Once atomic swaps come around the alliance between Bitcoin and Monero will be even stronger.

Monero has some slight weakness after being up pretty big against all other coins. XMR might go down till $105 or even $95 but could also reverse up much earlier maybe even at the current price level, so I'm not trading this.

Fresh money flowing into BTC generally leads to speculators positioned in Alts fomoing back into BTC which by itself leads to even stronger feedback from normies and the remaining Altcoin investors and more money flowing into BTC up to a point where Alts look comparatively cheap and the cycle breaks.

Expect this bull market to have at least three or more full cycles where investors will oscillate from thinking Bitcoin to be depreciated to BTC being the eternal golden blockchain bull coin and Alts just being shitcoins. This will go back and forth and the trading public will reverse their opinion by 180° within a matter of weeks or even days.

Here's the lyrics if you wanna do something with it.

If yonder morrow all coins were gone,
All mining gone awry...
And given my own to start anew,
Were a CPU and some time.

I'd bless my gracious fortune,
and boldly hence proclaim...
Monero standeth for liberty...
And they shan't take that away.

There be many fudders, shills and pajeets,
in this humble thread of mine...
But shitcoins and bitcoins will meet their fate,
they shan't stand the long test of time.

I bless my gracious fortune,
and boldly here proclaim...
Monero standeth for liberty...
And they shan't take that away.

The merchants and banks, they bring forth their bans,
their might, they wish to maintain...
They quiver in fright when Monero's in sight,
For Monero reveals their false games.

I bless my gracious fortune,
and boldly here proclaim...
Monero standeth for liberty...
And they shan't take that away.

Now choose ye this day what to trust in,
In fiat or true liberty...
But just as my house and my brethren,
Monero's the future for me.

it's fud. fireice is a known pest who has a beef with monero devs.
see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/johg19/monero_anonymity_broken_100_users_their/
Also the Monero team is preparing a formal response to this. So long story short it's all fud. Transactions can't be traced.

>tl;dr — This attack does not expose sender/receiver/amounts, nor does it allow him to link anything else to the user except the single transaction hashes to the sending node. He has not “cracked Monero”, but simply harvested IPs and TX hashes, something possible on all p2p networks, and the exact reason Monero has implemented Dandelion++ .

>I introduce you "fireice", the most active and consistent Monero attacker :) During the years he claimed the Monero community is composed by neonazis, has paid shills to spam this channel, spreaded false claims, doctored screenshots and much more! All while shilling his own personal shitcoin. Now he made a step beyond and decided to actively attack the network by creating malicious nodes to gather as much info as possible about the network.

fud, provides absolutely 0 proof
he just hit up some ips he got from torrent swarms on https://iknowwhatyoudownload.com/en/peer/, if he even did that, most probably not even that since the ips aren't even complete.
Anyone can put random ip ranges on anonymous transactions.

Let's believe this guy whose only argument is "trust me"
>uses bootstrap, the most common UI library
>uses mock data.
>has the word shit in the url
Favourite type of porn.. Really.
If anything, that right there glows. You can't know that information with just an IP and a monero transaction id.
>the admin of the forums is fierce_uk
>looking at his github account
>commits to ryo-currency/ryo-currency
>ryo's team claims to have made the cryptonight hashing algorithm
>that algorithm was the old algo on XMR and was replaced by RandomX
Basically just a buch of seething faggots.
