Unfortunately, the political turmoil prevening stimulus and a way forward is causing short term and possibly medium-term bearish.

We saw how quickly this market pumps, personally though volatility needs to die down, for both pumps and dumps before anything good can come of a long term bullish trend.

Closer expiration date and/or farther strike, much higher gains but option decays faster.

Further expiration date and/or closer strike, less gains but option decays slower.

I'm the UK, the USA is the leader of the market world, so it's good to be re-here on them fully.

Their system has a habit of filibustering and teasing shit when it comes to crises.

Yes Congress could keep blocking it, Trump could use executive orders to pass specific tasks (such as deferral recommendations etc) but he needs the funding from Congress to really begin making a difference.

Almost entire rally after July is from a suspected Stimulus. If we get a big stimulus, even if it's only suspected. I will take that and reduce exposure as it pumps.

Well we know Trump will win and GOP will hold Congress. Only question left is the House. Unlikely it will flip, but if it does miraculously flip then the true bullrun will begin because then there will be absolutely nothing stopping stimulus. Even though offices won't change until 2021, markets will price it in now.

Even in the base case with a Dem House it's still likely stimulus will pass soon, because after Trump wins again Nancy won't have the political backing to keep stonewalling.

That helps some people, but I'm pretty sure the average person has less than $5000 in savings and are getting completely assfucked because of all this. I've been thinking a bit, and I'm worried about how the economic narrative some people have is centered around rounds of stimulus bills/fiscal support already.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlf7fpHU8Vs

Monetary tools remaining are few, and continued fiscal support is necessary, but it's going to make us dependent on it to keep things running in the same way that post-GFC we had to keep rates low.
Think stimulus packages every quarter or UBI + Business UBI/backstopping.

My personal fear is that It'll get to the point where if Congress isn't passing bills, parties are going to push for laws to allow the Fed to directly intervene in fiscal because that's what's needed to prop the economy up.

It doesn't feel like anyone has a plan past the next stimulus bill.
There are just a bunch of baseless assumptions that after a round of stimulus or two the economy will be fixed and we can wean off the fiscal support.
The second we do, we're going to get another 2018-style correction where markets reject anything but easing measures.

>how does selling a call contract work?
You agree to sell 100 shares (per contract, so 10 contracts = 1000 shares for example) at a given price (called the strike price) by a certain date (the expiration of the contract) in exchange for a fee (called a premium).

If you don't have 100 shares of the given stock, it's called an uncovered call, and is a good way to bankrupt your account, because you'll be forced to buy those stocks at the given price for the sake of fulfilling the contract. So, basically unlimited potential loss for a finite gain.

Selling covered calls, IE actually owning the stock of the calls you are selling, is a safe way to make small gains because all you have to do is sell the call at a strike price you're comfortable with exiting the position at, and you gain a premium for the sake of doing so. It won't lead to explosive gains like a lucky call you bought will get you, but it's a good way to guarantee safe gradual gains.

Long term SSRI use reduces the ability of the brain to create its own serotonin. The SSRI's are supposed to replace this but you build a resistance to it. The best example of what it's like to have no serotonin is, I used to love listening to music, now when I listen to music I feel nothing.

Be careful out there. The entire stock market is propped up with a massive purchase of short term (6 month) call options made in March that are about to expire soon.

This will keep valuations near the ATH back in February. If the call options expire worthless, these stocks will fall back to their March lows.

I first read about delta hedging a few minutes ago, but i think i understood it right
Selling calls is a play betting on low volatility, delta hedging is just staying relatively neutral to market moves, when a small investor could just sell and stay cash to be market neutral a whale selling woud doomp the price and there might not even be enough cash in circulation to hoard, so instead they buy options to stay neutral

The wheel strategy is risky in a volatile market. If the premium is high, it's because the volatility high. That means wild swings in either direction.

You start off with short puts. Worse case, you get assigned on Friday. You hope that the stock doesn't drop too much on Monday. If it drops too much, the strategy is ruined.

You sell calls on your stock. If you sell calls, you're protected from the downside by the premium but if goes down too much, you'll lose money. If it goes up too much, you won't be able to sell without a loss until expiration and you'll miss out on the gains.

The risk-reward isn't worth it, IMO.

Seems like if I go ALL IN on a stock using debt on calls (/WSB style), fail and try again in 7 years after bankruptcy....seems like a good trade off.

Ok GME bros, hear me out - I suspect we've (almost) been had!
The plan was always to hold into November, probably December, nobody really thought the short squeeze would come before then. But then we got the sudden pump to $15 and everyone thought "this is it".
That's what they wanted us to think! It was the shorters who pumped it to $15, deliberately market buying like morons to create a small spike and give an impression of a short squeeze that then kind of meh-ed out into nothing, leaving /biz/ with a bunch of disillusioned GMErs and even bagholders who fomo-ed in and sold at a loss. Demoralization: total. Everybody sells and the shorters win. Brilliant. Or it would have been, had it not been for me, the meddling kid, and my dog!

>> No.23656599

>>23656509
I don't. With QE going on, a new president and stimulus I don't really see us able to drop. Scooping up SPY below 300 would be considered free money by most.

March dropped based on people believing the world was literally about to end. It was pure unfiltered panic. People were worried for their lifes, not stocks. Now people are just worried about their stocks.

We may crab down another 10% or so, but even 15% is a stretch and something any sane person should go all in on.

>> No.23656610

>> No.23656624

>>23656543
I mean think about it. The pump and dump couldn't have been the short squeeze, because nobody covered, the number of shorts went up and the subsequent dump indicates the stocks that were bought were later sold back. So was it supposed to be a natural pump based on the GME news (about Microsoft)? Seems like it was a bit too big a bump for that, even with some people fomo-ing in because they thought it was the short squeeze.
The pump and dump was engineered. And it wasn't even to make money from the pnd itself, but to scare everyone off from holding for the short squeeze. I guess this means the shorters are starting to actually worry.
