The dollar isn't precious metal anymore. So without its fiat value, it's nothing unless you have a large quantity of the pure metal for a factory to buy.

Personally I have a stash of copper pennies and nickels.
Those are your two best bets followed by zinc pennies.
They aren't worth building a massive hoard of though, maybe a few hundred dollars worth at most.
