The point the hedge fund CEO is trying to make is the fact that a majority of large caps went parabolic post-Corona crash, so even young kids that pressed the buy button is making crazy gains and is now thinking they are godlike investors. Yes IV crush happens after earnings. Sometimes its a non-factor though. However, if you face a scenario like FSLY a week or so ago where it dropped 30% overnight, the potential gains can SOMETIMES outweigh the gains lost from the crush. In the FSLY scenario, I can't remember the specific strike, but if you bought this put for 0.66 at close, it was worth over 27.00 by open. That drop was a earnings leak I believe. I don't think you'll see a 30% gain in FB unfortunately. In most cases, its best to sell your options before earnings if you have a limited amount of contracts. If you have multiple, you can sell a majority and let the rest ride in case the stock does moon post-earnings.
