public float is 48 million for GME
there are 70 million shares short, more than the float that exist
if hypothetically all 70 million shares are called back simultaneously by the lenders, they owe more than exist and it could get really ugly for the last few shorts that have to cover

don't be baited by """free money, infinite short squeeze potential""", the high short interest doesn't matter until GME can get back to making a profit by Q3 or Q4, and even then it's going to be a slow short squeeze since institutions can afford to cover at their own pace
also it's not in gamestop's favor to incite a short squeeze, so I doubt they would call a massive shareholder vote right now or continue with share e buybacks

Minimum volatility (using VXN) for buy: 35
Minimum volatility (using VXN) for sell: 15
This basically identifies the moment big money finishes their position which they've been in the process of taking for a while: they go slowly and regularly the whole time, then when they are finally allowed to dump the last segment, they go slightly outsized, causing a large spike (if they sold everything) or dip (if they bought) just before a reversal.
The signal is playable as-is (backtest it yourself if you like). Otherwise, you can wait for the signal and then use normal trade signals to find a position (typically a parabolic buy/sell setup forms at the absolute bottom).

yes it will because there's no reason big institutions have to cover themselves into an infinite squeeze when they have huge collateral

e.g. Melvin Capital is most likely short on GME but their holdings total to over $10 billion. You do the math and see if they will even come close to a margin call if GME short is probably less than 1% of their holdings

the most high profile short they did was probably their bet on Nintendo and that was $400 million at most

thank you but it seems scalping refers to something fraudulent. What I meant was noticing trends in how the price of stocks go up or down and simply investing at the point you expect to be low and selling at a point you can reasonably expect (judging by recent stock price history) to be high. It's not pumping and dumping; it's more about knowing that company A can be expected to go up to 15% before going down by about 15% as evidenced by recent cycles.

>Moreover, changes made by Apple AAPL and Alphabet’s GOOGL Google in their mobile operating systems and browser platforms have limited Facebook’s ability to track user-activity trend.

a lot, but IV won't increase your option price until half a week out (2-4 days) of earnings
>If I sold a call today on AAPL for $3.30, is the IV going to cause the price to go up significantly before earnings on Thursday?
LOOL yes it defintely will go up a SHITLOAD by Thursday
>and the call's price will only increase if AAPL itself also increases on earnings hype?'
The call's price will increase based on a lot of things including the underlying AAPL share price. But time to expiration, implied volatility,as well as underlying stock price are the main things that determine an option's price.
So to answer your question, the call's price will increase or decrease based on your selected time to expiration and the implied volatility.

It *highly* depends on your time to expiration (what was your expiration date)???
If your expiration date was within 30 days from today or less, then theta decay would have dramatically offset the IV runup in option price.
But if you had more than 30 days, the theta decay would've been a lot less (this is why they tell you to sell your calls sooner rather than later as expiration approaches)

Pic related demonstrates how much quicker theta decay is <30 days out from expiration for options

Based. I've accumulated enough div stocks since April that if they return to where they were in 2 or 3 years, I'll be pulling in a cool $1300 every quarter, or around $450/month. Right now receiving around $150 in divvies every quarter. Ultimately I'm still adding whenever I get the chance. I'd like to get to the point where if the market fully recovers, I'll be making 3k per quarter, or $1000/month, and just keep reinvesting those divvies into either more divvies, or (more likely) into other fields that I can receive passive income from thats more recession proof, just incase the market dumps again.

so from what i understand its a short term bullish for console upgrades and while the joint agreement with microsoft that allows gamestop to profit off all purchases from gamerpasses sold, talk of sony doing something similar is being tossed around and this will help sustain them but it does cannibalize future in store games that can be bought. The management of GME is supposed to be transitioning to a more digital heavy model and the way they plan to do this is through an app which to me is ok but not enough exposure to the digital market to save a billion dollar company from competitors. So uncertain waters ahead but it still has enough to float for another 4-5 years easily which is why im so happy with this stock in the short to potentially long term. would like to hear differing opinions though because ive thought about this too much and its given me tunnel vision

This is why the short interest keeps rising. They actually think they're right.

Ngl berkeley is terrible (dirty) but ive also had the best moments of my life in Berkeley
I bought acid off some homeless looking white guy when i was 23 in Berkeley and I met a group of financebros who now work in Investment Banking later on in that trip, made some good connections that weekend.
But yeah after living in Idaho and then South Carolina for 5 years of my life I know for a fact that its not even a close call for me to choose Berkeley over these other depressing shitholes. If I ever have to live in a neighborhood where there is an actual meth problem you know I've failed in life.

Berkeley >>>>>>> anywhere in Idaho by a long shot

bullish for Lockheed and other pure defense plays, actually bearish for Raytheon and Boeing because of their commercial airline exposure

Keep in mind these aren't new production contracts though, mostly transfer of some ATACMS nearing expiration anyways. But the tension is bullish for pure play defense.
