Say I wanted to spend a couple $100s on GME calls. I have a boomer stock portfolio and am curious about learning options, frankly mostly as a way to buy small put positions to hedge my stocks. Don’t worry that giving me advice will make you responsible for setting me off on my way to lose it all, I’m just using coffee money and my goal is to decrease the gambling aspect by hedging, allowing me to hold more calmly. Yet I don’t want to start by buying puts, since just doing it on speculation that something WILL go down is the kind of gambling I want to avoid. So buying calls on GME seems a good starting test, since it’s also fun and I believe the DD (I hold 1k gme shares). the most basic of basics is looking at delta = percent chance you are in the money at expiry.
note this is purely math / market / technical, so it does not apply to GME, which is moving on fundamentals, surprise events, and binary events.

but if you take your favorite big cap blue chip, and but a .50 delta call, its basically saying you have a 50% chance to be in the money at exp.

so what about GME? well you can try and look at other short squeeze stocks, I like comparing to OSTK because a) its recent, b) it squeezed gradually over time instead of in 1 day, much like GME is seeming to do.

You could then look at the increase in price as a %, maybe compare the short % floats, but in general short squeezes are rare and very difficult to measure events.

The inevitability of stimulus is priced in but delays are currently well expected. Which isn't to say setbacks won't be responded to with some de-risk selling every time. I think it would be easier to trade this market if you deliberately ignored all news and all information about the market, only traded chart. For instance, I am swing trading QQQ right now, am up a few percent but have taken a lot of drawdown since October 13th. This drawdown is within normal range of acceptable for me with TQQQ. But I'm more nervous about it than I would otherwise be if this wasn't such a gong show of an election year. I think the nasdaq and S&P will move within a flat range up until the election without stimulus passing. With stimulus this week -unlikely but for hypothetical sake- you might see the ATH taken out briefly.
