Iknow asking during trading hours is a shot in the dark but i'm looking for advice to set up a ROTH IRA.
I'm 19 and want to contribute 6k annually. I have just 1 year market experience.
Due to my situation I don't mind going agressive, just going full growth stocks and such.

Anyone got some advice for me? to be specific, idk what to buy and how to hedge it. full aapl?

Thanks.

That's what some people were saying last night also.

Couple questions:
1) Why would Cohen make his involvement so public if he didn't want to get dabbed on by funds. At the bargain bin prices it was at shouldn't he have been able to buy up all he wanted pretty quick?

2) Why wouldn't he just sell now at no risk vs trying to transform the company and taking lots of risk, when it will only be acquired at maybe 2x above current prices?/why would funds pump it that much and not think he just exits?

3) Wouldn't these shell funds coming in b4 make it seem like this was planned all along, even before Cohen?

4) Do you think maybe cohen, since it seems like he came after these shell funds, picked up on the plays big bois were making, and its actually a 4d chess by him to scalp the funds? That would explain him being so open about it better and the timeline, but he doesn't seem that smart idk.

You should come into the thread tomorrow. Weekends are best for stock advice; you're right to assume that trading hours aren't the best time to ask for serious advice like this.

But as some quick advice - a lot of us are serial gamblers but I HOPE most of us have secure and safe core positions and only gamble with some side change. Secure core positions would be index tracking ETFs like VOO and QQQM (new! get this instead of QQQ). A majority of your investments should just be auto-allocated every paycheck into those and leave some fun money for fucking around with. AAPL isn't a bad buy but rather than going all in on one company it'd really be better to just go all in on the entire market. Try to stay away from individual stocks unless you put in the effort to research them and have confidence in them. If your reason for AAPL is "line keeps going up" then you may be burned in a decade or so if they unexpectedly shit the bed or a competitor rips them a new ass.

Invesco has some new ETFs that may interest you but nobody knows for sure how they'll go. They're made for growth though. QQQJ and QQQG are both long term growth kinda ETFs that are made with "finding valued gems" in mind.

My plan is to wait like 5 months and if the dip never happens just go all in with my initial 6k on funds and some growth companies I consider long term winners
thoughts on DRIP?

Our labor force participation rate is somewhere around 60% at the moment. The stimulus checks were what, 6 months ago? The average joe is struggling to exist.
The billionaires are essentially already all-in, their wealth spike was from the rebound itself. The money that they are spending is going towards things such as bunkers and end of the world/SHTF prep, there are plenty of articles about this.

I don't think you understand what a 3% up move in a single day really means. Try plotting it out and see what /NQ would be at during Oct 2021 if that theoretically continued and how much money that would take.

I used to, but then I learned that stop orders are public record and algos literally farm off them. If you're placing stop orders, you're advertising to algos "I'm selling cheapies if you push the price down a bit!" That's why you commonly see people complain that their stop loss was triggered and the stock instantly shot up - usually they have them placed at a price that many other people do so algos manipulate the price down to scoop up discounts. Now I just manually sell unless it's an obvious PnD position that has a chance of falling like a rock.

As for buy orders, I use very basic watered down TA for those. Set 3 moving average lines on your charts for 50,100,200 and use those as guides to set limit buys. You wanna set your price at the resistance line if you're looking for the good foot in the door but it's definitely not perfect. Just good enough without getting too deep into the TA rabbit hole, and it's worked fine for me so far.

>2) Why wouldn't he just sell now at no risk vs trying to transform the company and taking lots of risk, when it will only be acquired at maybe 2x above current prices?/why would funds pump it that much and not think he just exits?
Ryan Cohen's not really an inventor and he's certainly not risk adverse. When he sold Chewy to petsmart for 3.5 billion he pumped most of that money into AAPL and Wells Fargo and nothing else. It seems pretty obvious that RC suddenly dumped millions of dollars into GME because he wants to get back into the game of building niche ecommerce as an entrepreneur, not because he wants a measly 2x trading.

>The rest
Well, the current speculative theory is that RC wants to use a short squeeze to pay for his acquisition of GME, then take it private and pull a CHWY. That's why he's gone as close as possible to 10% without actually hitting it - so that he wouldn't be subject to a clawback rule. Basically at 10% or more any profit he would make from stock he held less than 6months would be "clawed-back" by the company, so he wouldn't be able to use Bobo's money.

Also as a word of caution, timing the market is almost impossible. Keep some money liquid for dips but don't lock too much of your free funds waiting for one; if you wait too long you may get a "juicy dip" only to find that the "dip" price is actually 10% above the price you'd have purchased it at 3 months ago. It's a better strategy to average into your positions rather than waiting for the perfect window to dump it all in. If you average in, you'll have a higher chance of success over the long run as your losses get canceled out by your wins. In the short term you'll be able to catch the dips, but you're more likely to lose out to opportunity costs over the long term if you keep trying to do it. Not COMPLETELY discouraging your strategy though, just putting in my two cents. But see what other anons say about it - I personally use somewhat of a mixture of trying to time and averaging.

I know my average is definately 15$, and not the previous 11$ floor, or 9$ floor, or 7$ floor, or 4$ floor. So im definately way down on this new 13$ floor.

How do daily leveraged ETFs work across markets with different trading hours? Say stock A trades on market A (2pm-9pm GMT), ETF B backed by A trades on market B (8am-4pm GMT). A and B cost $100 at 4pm. Market B closes. A jumps to $200 by 9pm. Next day, B resets at open; does it open at $100 or at $200 (300 for 2x etc)?

I switched over to averaging in after the September Dump. Before that I was putting larger chunks at once into stuff like FNGU and TQQQ but, as to be expected, one shitty overnight dump lost me most of my profit, and then trying to jump back in the rest of the month put me in the hole $800. I've had consistent green days since I started averaging in to TSLA, UPS and TSM as my top three (about 25% of my portfolio each) and then throwing smaller chunks (~10% of my portfolio) into stuff like GME, NAIL and SQ for chunks of 5% profit

Averaging in is just a fancy version of market timing. Flip a coin it will be heads or tails. If you buy a +3% and a -3% what good did you accomplish? I don't see any meaningful difference between all inning and dcaing except one you have less time in the market. If you have money set aside you can use for dips you're either risking too much by using emergency cash, or you are exposed to inefficiency by having too much in your emergency cash that could have been doing something for you. My approach may be boring but it frees up the extremely limited resource of my attention, concentration, and intelligence that I can apply elsewhere. Automation is a good thing and its why computers like algorithms so much. We aren't computers but I think a hands off algorithmic approach to investing is best for both returns and peace of mind. I love money but I actually dislike thinking about it, crazy as that sounds.

Opportunity costs does apply to everything though...If you decide to go to college, your costs are:
>Not entering the workforce immediately for experience
>Not getting a trade
>Not starting your adult life without student loans

etc. But you have to weigh the potential pros and cons of each decision. Opportunity costs aren't just a thing for the stock markets - every decision you make means there's a choice you didn't make. Sometimes it's easier than others to pick the right one, but with financials in particular it becomes important. The point is to not believe "taking no action" is safer than taking action is a fallacy. It's sometimes the case, but not always, and it's important to ALWAYS analyze the context of your choices. Markets have shown to constantly rise, so the chances of you timing a significant dip become lower and lower the longer you wait. It could be the right move, but it increasingly builds potential for being the wrong move the longer you wait.

97% of the stock is owned by institutions and billionaires. Very little influence is placed upon it by paper hands.
So the reason it goes down like this is because of more shorting.
So what happens?
GME isn't going anywhere.

>As late as November 16th, short interest in KBIO had stood at less than 6%. The cost to borrow shares was not excessive. The sudden double whammy of rising short interest against a sudden change in available float is often easy to miss, especially because there are slight delays on the reporting of short interest and ownership changes. Actual short interest is generally only disclosed bi-weekly while investors generally have at least several days to disclose changes in their holdings.
