Balancer launched smartpools which is where the AMPL pool is but I don't believe it solves the issue with Sta. Actually I dont think rebase tokens were ever a problem at all - you would just have to call gulp as part if the transaction when rebasing which is only once a day. Sta needs it called on every transaction which maybe gold or whatever will do

Apparently the reason is that Balancer is going to ban STA for being deflationary. xSTA is just like normal STA but with a fresh start, supply and price reset.
