it's hard to explain and i'm pretty ignorant, but i've seen it as a common theme in a lot of historical work. there's this sense of greater good in their community that justifies tricking people or abandoning them, especially outside of the faith. you can say the business focus came first, but i don't really think so, lots of small subcultures with normal values do well in business too.

there are other cultures which look at honesty as something bad or inefficient. they just aren't as educated.

I don't know about the rest of Europe but in the country I live in (Denmark) the don't have a much higher fertility rate than natives. Natives have 1,8 while non-Western immigrants have 2,1

A few centuries ago, before the Catholic church had its reform (with the new religions being formed, Protestantism, Orthodoxism), money was considered "vile". Profits were "perverse". So you, as a christian, would have to get a jew to take care of your finances. This went on for a lot of years, the jews were able to finance themselves and create very strong connections within their communities, sharing knowledge, etc.

After this became the opposite, they started to become shady, because they didn't want the masses to take their amazing profits. That's basically it.
