With risk management I can keep the realized losses to a minimum on those but meanwhile the index has gained on me while I am making zero returns. Eventually I changed strategies such that I now swing trade 3x index ETFs with 80% of my portfolio, remaining 20% is hedges and/or commodities like precious metals, oil, nat gas. So far this has been a consistently winning allocation and has been index over last 18 months. I hope it remains a valid strat for years to come.
