How much do you keep in an actual savings account?

Do you do the Dave Ramsey rule and keep only 3-6 months of expenses? Do you keep a year? Less???

I work in a very volatile business where employee turn over is about 120% a year. So having good savings on hand for me makes sense. But I feel that having 30+k in a saving account earning .01% interest is a waste.
