You don't stack to see a profit, if you want to profit you're better off playing the stock market or getting a day job. Stacking is not for profit, stacking is for extracting yourself from the fiat system and protecting your wealth from bankers and government manipulation of fiat currency. An ounce of gold is always worth an ounce of gold, but an ounce of gold today might be worth $2000 USD today and $10000 USD next year. Stacking is to ensure the $1000 you saved this week will buy you the same amount of food and clothing in 10 or 20 or 50 years time when fiat currency has inflated away it's value. Remember how a burger cost $1 30 years ago, and now it costs $10? The cost to produce the burger is the same, but the value of your dollars have decreased, so you need more dollars to buy the same thing.

The right question isn't when you'll see profit, the right question is do I need to protect the product of my time and labour from government thieves who extort you and every sovereign citizen because they can and no one will stop them? The answer to that question, for me at least, was yes, and that was the day I bought my first ounce of gold.

Cool charts, good guides for anons when hunting for coins in the wild (sales or auctions) where you don't necessarily have the time or privacy to bust out a scale and World Coin book (or Numistia or whatever).

When I've seen spergs sit down and do this at auctions before bidding gets to the coins it draws a bunch of attention to the coins as well as focus on the sperg and his bidding. Basic psychology, you want to poker face everything and never draw attention to the gems you discover or know you want, so playing around with adjacent garbage while actually studying the nearby goodies may be called for sometimes.

Anyway, people pulling out scales and/or books aways seem to drive prices higher because it alerts all the chattering old farts who just go to auctions to socialize that something interesting is coming up. Best to memorize your rules of thumb and not clue anyone in to what you're thinking or what item you're feverishly researching on your phone. If you must research something, take a mental snapshot then pull out phone and research once you've moved away. Trust me, when I see people obviously fawning over something it organically draws attention and more people then go look at and research whatever it is which you clearly don't want. Poker face.

Often you don't need to do anything, the boomers just screw themselves. Dunno how many times I've seen a frenzied gaggle of boomers bid common worn Morgan dollars way over book while completely ignoring whole flats or jars of foreign silver coins which I hoovered up well below spot let alone retail value. Some boomers have gotten smart but most are still retards so happy hunting and good luck!

Started the day with this scrap, 7.5oz av ($159 melt) for $113.5 total. Really not a great deal, a bit more per gram than I like to spend but it's a nice set so I'll just add it to the stack of antique/vintage silver instead of scrapping it.

I paid $35 each for x3 of these, fair price? They are first strikes, the back says “PCGS FirstStrike Eligible” does that mean they aren’t already first strike? Or I have to send them in for them to come back graded like that. Was willing to pay that bc some have been saying 2020 ASE’s might be valuable since this is the last year with the back design that’s always been used

Pretty sure this, it's a dumb meme and not worth it to get ASEs slabbed and graded because they weren't struck for circulation and thus most are still pristine. Nothing special about uncirculated first strikes when they're all uncirculated.

I also don't think the 2020 coins will actually fetch significant collector premiums because so many have been hoarded already and the actual collectors one needs to have around to see appreciation in value probably already bought theirs.

All that said $35 is fine for encased ASEs, I wouldn't worry about it but don't harbor unrealistic expectations about future collector demand, first and foremost ASEs are just bullion.

That's what I do fren, stack kilos of quality antique sterling next to kilos of bullion returned from the refined lower quality and damaged old sterling. I'll buy bullion directly too but scrapping is so much cheaper.

I use Prospector's Gold and Gems in Fort Collins, CO. Call them up for details because their website is a bit ambiguous.

Early on I let myself get greedy and trusted a seller who said some old Chinese stuff tested at .800 silver. I can't read rice runes so couldn't verify stamps. By the time I realized it was junk it was too late and I was out $300. I also bought a $75 French punch ladle before I was more familiar with French hallmarks that was just plated. Sucks but other actually awesome deals easily absorbed the loss.

Those lessons are why I tell people to always verify that something is unambiguously stamped or hallmarked and never trust anything but one's own eyes, because scammers as well as garden variety goober sellers are everywhere. Getting greedy when you're not familiar with the marks tends to end poorly so just move along. Also beware of weighted stuff, I've never had problems but some people may overestimate yields and be very disappointed after breaking it down.

Anyone have thoughts regarding the total existing mined silver in all non-industrial forms? So bullion, coin, jewelry, and antiques/silverware all together?

This page breaks it down decently, and my reading of the pie chart arrives at about 900,000 metric tons of silver in bullion and otherwise economically recoverable form.

People like Chris Duane and other zealous silverbulls like to only point at existing bullion reserves when proclaiming a future 1:1 GSR, but that doesn't seem honest to me.

So if there are 900k tonnes of good silver above ground not used up in industry that is ~29 billion ounces, about 4.5x the amount of gold above ground. 1:1 seems pretty ridiculous but I could definitely see a 1:10-15 GSR one day.

Anyone have better or more trustworthy figures?

Sorry to hear fren, but I've bought scrap from you leafs before that was worth the shipping to USA so I'm sure you can find some too. Go search "sterling" in the antiques category (no further subcategory refinement necessary), Buy it Now listings only, sorted most recently listed first. Good BIN deals never last long which is probably why you haven't seen any, to succeed you need to refresh search results and be among the first to see the obvious cheapo good deals.

It doesn't take much time for me, I waste way more time here or chasing after the kids than I do browsing eBay, but there will be a learning curve for noobs so don't expect to be a wizard at it the first day. Don't get discouraged either though; cheap scrap flows literally every hour of every day on eBay and you'll get some too if you hunt for it. Good luck!

No probably just stored well or polished somewhat recently. I've never seen fake sterling with the raised/embossed "STERLING" mark but once and only once found a junk souvenir spoon someone stamped with one of those eBay "sterling" punches. Gorham is a good make though so if it's all marked sterling I'd believe it and buy accordingly.

Yes Ascot is one of my favorites right now, their Premier Mine and Red Mountain projects are going to be great mines in a few years. Its a common boomer ebay scam. If the scale readout doesn't explicitly say "toz" or 'oz t' then its a good chance they'll try to screw you. Same with product descriptions of weight: oz is understood to mean avoirdupois ounce, even though in PM circles it gets used interchangeably with troy ounce which is properly abbreviated oz t.

If you're doubtful, ask the seller to clarify his units. If he refuses its because he doesn't want to be on paper saying one thing and delivering another.

Were a pragmatic bunch. We will work if we can work. Everyone I know is currently working or getting offered to work. Even guys in retirement. Especially old guys who retired from underground 3-5 years ago. Tyson Mining has offered me 3 different jobs this winter too but I am not sure I want to go back underground yet. Companies are begging them to come back to train new guys or manage new labor. These guys are getting offered wages 5x what they would normally see and amazing benefits too, because there just isnt enough trained labor to go around. Sure, I'm not saying don't buy them. But they may be on sale before too long. I'm sitting on the sidelines with dry powder because I don't think we are done with big time downside risk. I also think yields are going to crash. So my conservative approach is to put half my cash in TLT (long term treasuries EFT) waiting for the treasury short squeeze while the other half is waiting for the next fire sale. And obviously, I'm staying near the entrance/exit in case the wind shifts. No that's a very good question.

ALWAYS assume that the sellers are quoting normal avoirdupois ounces (oz av) or that their scales are displaying in oz av unless explicitly stated otherwise. Obviously PMs are supposed to be measured in Oz t but most eBay sellers aren't familiar with our world.

If the sellers are smart enough to know the difference between Troy and Avoirdupois ounces then it's rather less likely that they are ignorantly selling cheap silver.

Also, you may come across amusing listings like "1 Troy Pound of 90% junk silver coins" which are made to trick boomers who think there are 16 ounces instead of 12 Ozt in a troy pound, kek.
