When you make a purchase write down the price you purchased it at on an Excel spreadsheet.
Don't sell unless the price is higher than that price.

Well you can use TA, that works sometimes

You can also learn to use your emotions, but you have to live through market cycles to learn what it feels like. Then you can look back at a time where a price was nose diving and you felt terrified, and that was the perfect time to buy, next time you know when you feel like that, you should buy instead of being afraid

Same goes for the opposite, when you feel euphoric and greedy. Your emotions really are pretty good signals

its a lot harder than just holding. taking a position that is otherwise countering the trend of the market requires a lot of courage. if you are able to time macro tops/bottoms, you have to suffer through seeing your position decline for some time. like right now, the top's obviously in, but you need to have the will power to not chase these silly pumps

follow charts every day, all day.
after 3 months or so, you'll see some patterns.
note the highs, lows and plateaus, especially on a daily chart.
do this not only for crypto but forex and stocks too
go from there, because the only real way to learn is using your own money
good luck

I'm starting using tight stop loss limits for these cases, better than riding the whole dump but high risk of being kicked out of a train about to start again

You can go all in with tight stops in some situations like an ascending triangle where resistance is being punched to death with very little downswing. In the same situation let's say this time the swings have been wider. If you set a tight stop loss you're almost asking to just donate to the market as you don't know if it has another swing left in it and the chances are higher it will. You might be better off setting your stop just below the first downswing (the lowest of the swings) after testing resistance which might be say 2.5% below resistance. In that case you need to calculate your position size which is account equity x % risk tolerance / % distance to stop loss. example $1000 worth of crypto x 1% max loss to capital / 2.5% SL distance = $400 buy in. Instead of throwing your entire account into the trade you will buy $400 worth and if you hit your stop loss you will only lose 1% of your entire capital. Sure if the trade wins you won't be maximizing your gains since you only put 40% in but what's more important is protecting your capital and you give the trade more wiggle room to succeed.
