All IPs are public (which is standard for anyone running a node or validator on any public blockchain), its uses GeoIP which isn't very accurate. My IP shows me as 3 miles away.

True. For many the map show much closer than 3 miles and think about people who aren't living in overly saturated urban area, They are literally permitted from stacking avax unless they want their ledger robbed.
