I'm honestly just waiting for the day BTC goes down and doesn't come back up again.

I don't really follow it that closely anymore, but it's obviously becoming more centralized with every day, and hopefully people wake up and break the stranglehold these mining farms have over the coin and move on, to doge, of course.

It's still quite weak and nothing to be afraid of.

Its a dual ASIC apparently so Im not sure what to make of that. For SHA-256 mining it runs at ~10Gh/s so that says quite a lot about how much effort they will need to put in to make a more powerful one.

3. what does that mean in the wallet : Minting suspended due to locked wallet?
This says you can not do mining due to wallet encrypted.
you need to unlock the wallet in order to mine (for example for PoS blocks):
mintcoin-qt -server
mintcoind walletpassphrase <passphrase> <unlock_duration_in_seconds> true
If it's just to send mint around then you just need to enter your passcode when it asks you.

Doge halving + too many shitcoins + nothing promising for people to invest in + bitcoin troubles = scrypt set for a decline

Depends on your personal choices, beliefs, risk aversion, etc.

In my opinion:

Do you believe ASICs, especially scrypt ASICs, are a harmful force that damages the fundamental decentralized principles of cyrptocurrency?

>Vertcoin, or another non-P&D Scrypt-N factor coin like Microcoin

Do you think ASICs don't/won't harm standard scrypt coins?

>Litecoin, Dogecoin (if it hasn't halved so much it's no longer worth mining..)

Do you want to go maximum conservative / think all altcoins will crash and burn?

>Mine middlecoin or middlepool and exchange to BTC.
(Yes this method is going to drop off in profitability of course as alt coins die down, as doge has halved middlecoin payout already went down ~30%.. but it's still arguably better than mining BTC directly and playing into that fucked up ASIC game)

Right now i lean towards #1 and mining vert/micro/(maybe another coin to come?) -- I don't think it is a coincidence that the massive interest in scrypt comes on the heels of all the damage ASICs & ASIC manufacturers have done to bitcoin.

the other advantage of n-factor is

1. middlecoin/multipool cannot mine it (requires a new mining client)
2. it's not 'hard' to setup but having to do that deters a good amount of people, meaning the difficulty is 'artifically' lower than an equivalent scrypt coin that everyone is so used to just 'yup change pool url and boom done'
3. FUD and disinfo about 'It's bad for GPUs' is also keeping diff's artifically lower.

I mined DOGE at the start and it paid of well. I also mined Vertcoin at the start, albeit i wish, with more rigs.

Unless you really have the time, energy, and cardiac fortitude to follow every trading move, every new shitcoin, every up and down, every pump, every dump, every fucking thing, it's just not worth it chasing coins around.

Look for ones that actually have something unique or meritworthy.

Yes, that is what I'm talking about. I hate my current job in IT. It is ruining my life. Before the halving, I was making more than double from mining than I was from that job. I mean I could get it added, but it'd be prohibitively expensive. Everything is romex so it's not like I can just pull thicker gauge wire through conduit like when you replace cat5 or whatever. It's a pain because I know a great electrician who quoted it out. I know I'd need a subpanel for anything more, though. I think it was something like $5k; I'm not investing that unless I own the place.

The thought is to rent a shitty office space for a hundred or so bucks a month. I'd have to look locally for that. If I could spend that much to have the headroom to add another...I dunno, 10 to 20mhash, it'd be worth it.

eh might as well post it, it's probably not possible anyway, and it's not a big secret

I was wondering if you could change the block reward so that the reward is inversely proportional to the change in hash rate over the last X blocks.

This means if a 20GH/sec multipool switched on, nobody gets any coins.

However if the mining rate sits stable, everyone's coin generation rate goes up by some amount (up to a block reward maximum)

alternatively - block reward goes UP when mining power leaves. block reward goes down when mining power enters (but this wouldn't kick in until a few days or week after mining begins)

alternatively 2 - some method by which people who mine constitantly for a long time mine slightly faster than the rest.. but i guess that's just Proof of stake minting.

combine the above perhaps with mint's interest on coins

basically try to disincentize people who

1. hop coins
2. dump coins instead of holding

would of course implement the gravity well thing and need to do some testing to make sure it wouldn't get fucked over. but i'd be really interested to see if it would work

about it being determinsitic/non-deterministic coin supply...

well, has anyone ever DONE a non-deterministic coin supply? It might be interesting.

just some crazy ideas i've got

I don't really care about that much, it just sounds funny and we could tip each other thousands of LELS for top quality, side splitting posts, and to trade for Topkeks.

Pretty much like how we treated Doge for those first 2 weeks.

We don't really need some innovative deal-a-majig, just something funny to fuck around with, and /biz/ needs OC.
