Ohnononono SPACfags.... Bobo is coming.
>Ben Axler of the activist fund Spruce Point Capital Management joins this week’s “What Goes Up” podcast to discuss where he’s looking for opportunities, including in special-purpose acquisition companies.
>Some highlights of the conversation:“I would say the opportunities currently that we're seeing are very immature, very poorly diligenced companies coming public, probably prematurely.
>You've probably heard a lot about the ebullience and froth in the SPAC market, special-purpose acquisition corporations, raising money, some with very limited defined purposes, going out buying companies and helping them accelerate their IPO process quicker than the traditional route.
>That certainly has caught our attention. Because those companies, as we believe, are a little bit less diligenced, and a little premature. So those are good opportunities, the SPACs, and even the traditional IPOs that are coming public now.”

there were like 5 positive articles over the weekend trying to pump GME

GME's volume on yesterday's dip was significantly lower than the average, and there's definitely still stronger momentum upwards
The bigger players aren't blind and expect GME to finally recover after years (to them) of bagholding. I think the Hestia fund for example has been bagholding since ~2012

sucks for smaller players like us though, even if the volume was not significant, it's still a massive dip for us and the volume/liquidity is ultimately irrelevant to us

Regardless this stock has always been a volotile piece of shit. This isn't a long term gain, it's a short term fling. We're waiting for the 2 week window where we set up parameters so we sell at our minimum gain amount but look for the highest possible value in November.

im gonna admit, i purpose write without proper capitalization or periods because people actually end up trusting people who type informally like this in informal settings
i do the same shit with texting

The moment you see someone start typing properly like this though? It's scary, and it makes you wonder if it's someone in an authority position who's typing behind it. Think about your friends who text you with periods and proper punctuation compared to the ones who text informally. Who do you feel like you trust more?

I saw Trump at a grocery store in New York in 2016. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly

I think people tend to understate the competitive advantages that a specialty retailer like Gamestop can have over Amazon. Gamestop has data about the gaming preferences of its customers, a wide network of rewards members, and employees with the knowledge to make specific recommendations to customers. That is what Cohen sees in Gamestop - a retailer with massive potential in a market where customers are fanatical about their games.

short sellers didn't cover (they have to eventually buy back 60 million shares) even though GME did massive buybacks that basically halved the amount of shares that exist

they kept betting that gamestop would go to $0 and go bankrupt, and here we are now with gamestop surviving to the start of a new console cycle with more cash than debt even after the corona lockdown black swan event
ultimately, this is still reliant of gamestop actually improving their fundamentals at Q3 or Q4. Shorts will not cover just because of speculation hype alone, there has to be compelling evidence that GME will be safe and be growing for the next several years
Short sellers are not covering because clearly they believe this is just a momentary spike and it will go back down to $4 soon or even $0 so they can cover for cheap/free

the contrarian GME play bets against that obviously, hardly contrarian now though when it's already clear they won't be going bankrupt anytime soon

the spike was mostly from people jumping in to speculate on Cohen, not from short sellers covering

So i'm completely a newbie here so my understanding of call options is very rudimentary.
I was under the impression that in order to profit off call options, lets say in this situation for GME 4 months ago when it was 5 bucks, you would only make a profit ONCE it hits your strike price (in this guy's case, $15).
So you can profit off calls if the share price moves towards your strike price only, not necessarily if it hits your strike price and moves above it?

There are a lot of factors that affect a call's price: delta, gamma, theta, vega, and rho. Look at the price the calls were purchased at compared to the last price. You make money on the call as long as the share price increases towards your strike price and vice versa in terms of puts. Once it hits or exceeds your strike price or become in the money, the amount you get per $1 raise in share price increases exponentially.

Calls just give you the right to buy shares at the strike price. Since calls are not free the share price on the market has to be above (strike + call price) for you to make profit because then you can buy them for the strike price and dump onto the market and pocket the difference between strike and market price. But don't forget that you also paid for the calls before That's why you have to add your entry price for the calls to the strike. Options expire which means they're only good until a certain date. If your option expires with strike below the market price it's obviously worthless, because why would you buy shares for more than the market price. If your option strike price is below the market price but they don't expire just yet, there's still the possibility that the stock prices moves above strike until then. The price of the option is proportional to that probability. There are different models on how to estimate that probability and therefore the price of the option. Black scholes is the most used one. It assumes that the stock price is random. The probability is then a function of strike, current stock price, expiry date and volatility of the stock price.
You can of course sell your option. You don't have to exercise them.

What is net income and EPS.

Get a clue bud.

He's right to some degree. I think GME, unless it hits a more targetable market, or transforms in some way or a number of ways, is on it's way out. They are stagnating and their revenue is trailing down, their net income has been considerably negative, and unless some insider info is released as to why such and such companies have bought into this place, it's best bet is to liquidate and sell all physical locations, consolidate, and as stated earlier, deploy into better target markets. If they become just another online retailer that's a short signal over the long term, if they have an M&A with someone (which would be my guess as to what they're considering), that's a long signal. Though they may, and probably will get bought out, it's just a matter of how much cash they will bleed until then, how they can structure the M&A and attract companies, how they can liquidate their long term assets/leasing agreements, and a number of other things. I may look into GME based solely on the fact that they'd be dumb NOT to propose some kind of reverse merger or something to that effect.

They slowed down buybacks starting in 2017.

Here's some more data on it.
Buybacks’ drain on corporate treasuries has been massive. The 465 companies in the S&P 500 Index in January 2019 that were publicly listed between 2009 and 2018 spent, over that decade, $4.3 trillion on buybacks, equal to 52% of net income, and another $3.3 trillion on dividends, an additional 39% of net income. In 2018 alone, even with after-tax profits at record levels because of the Republican tax cuts, buybacks by S&P 500 companies reached an astounding 68% of net income, with dividends absorbing another 41%.
JPMorgan Chase has constructed a time series for 1997 through 2018 that estimates the percentage of buybacks by S&P 500 companies that have been debt-financed, increasing the financial fragility of companies. In general, the percentage of buybacks that have been funded by borrowed money has been far higher in stock-market booms than in busts, as companies have competed with one another to boost their stock prices.

In 2018, however, as stock buybacks by companies in the S&P 500 Index spiked to more than $800 billion for the year, the proportion that were financed by debt plunged to about 14% in the last quarter. Why was there a sharp decline in 2018, when the dollar volume of buybacks far surpassed the previous peak years of 2007, 2014, and 2015?

Ask yourself that as you look at the data. The numbers don't add up in the way you think they do.

No. If the call strike is above market price it's basically worthless but it has "value" because the stock price might end up above the strike. The probability of that happening depends on strike, stock price, time until expiry and how fast the stock moves (also called volatility).
>So the price of an option premium is proportional to the probability a stock price moves above your strike price?
In simple terms, yes. It's actually how much above the stock price (strike - stock price difference) multiplied by the probability of that specific difference happening and all summed up.

GME Analysis
GME is strengthening cash on hand, lessening inventory, and lessening PP&E, as well as a small, yet considerable amount of other long term assets.

Their liabilities however, have not shrank with these changes, meaning they may very well be asleep at the wheel somewhat, so to speak.
This is all a QoQ analysis over the past 4-6 quarters.

This is the micro now here's the macro. Wages are set to stagnate and possibly even deteriorate until the end of the next deflationary period. Why? Population growth is stagnating, AI and immigrants are having an absolute effect on number employees needed, labor pool, etc., and it's assumed that consumer spending may eventually fall due to people feeling enough pressure (see Dec. 31 eviction ban lifting). These will be some of the key indicators for GME's future. As stated earlier, unless GME can capture more market share, or set up an attractive reverse merger of sorts (so the GME stock can absorb into another company), which I doubt WalMart or Amazon would be interested, they'd probably rather let it bleed until they could pick and choose like vultures, then GME may not have a very bright future.

Despite the strengthening of the balance sheet, they still have what could be considered quite a road ahead of them with regards to having income surpass expenses. Large scale share buys could just be risk mitigation as well. So consider the amount of put options that were bought up as firms buy stock.

Interest rates, dumbass.
Having a moral stance on buybacks is just parading your ignorance, they are a necessary part of capital management.

Lel. Get the fuck out with that shit.
Cash flow from operations has mostly been positive and the stock traded really close to book a while ago. Alone that is a buy. It doesn't need much to move that up. Revenue boost in incoming ( but speculative). 400 mio in bonds outstanding due Mar21 and Mar23. No problem here. Redeeming should help net income due to lower interest expenses. Debt went up last year because of accounting changes(lease as debt). Rest is mostly in store credit. A richfag who is very successful in online stores already came out with the intention of buying the whole thing. No goodwill, no other unnecessary shit. I don't really care about macro. I'm not staying long enough to find out.

i think these municipalities with bloated budgets and are mostly run by democrats, they inflate budgets further and uhhh im tired of it... connecticut had an opportunity for leadership, the ex-ceo of GE tried to become our governor, he's still a hero to conservatives, his mentality and agenda hasn't changed... the dude organiized free facemask hand outs, touch free, just drive up, they toss them in the wiindow and drive through, guy actually handed out over 15,000 facemasks personally, even though he lost the governors office. and the best part is, he's still standing up for what he fought for, and striving to bring conservative values to decorum, and the state's floor, he's a conservative republican, but the dude actually lost the election and took his time and energy to use his campaign and outreach to give free masks.... i mean i don't wear the fucking things, but he gave more to people who had nothing than any beruacrrats.... shit connecituct is so fucked... the courts are literally stacked against us, our state is the constitution state... we basically have a state charter, and it's completely ruined because of the judicial branch... there are specific statutes regarding voting, and oh our studdering stolen valour senetor, iis a supporter of democrats this dude should lose his support.

I don't follow. What you posted seems to confirm what I'm saying. When interest rates are lower, companies would rather put their capital in buybacks and dividends.

What are you trying to say?

Anon be real you know the rich can sway the market. Dont act like theyre invincible you perma bull. You perma bulls and perma bears make it hard to get good info on here. Let me guess when all the tickers unanimously go up or down at the exact same second its just a bunch of retail traders on robinhood who all decided to sell at the exact same time for no reason at all. Definitely not the rich, the algos (who belong to the corps and rich individuals), or hedge funds (who are corps as well). No way theyd ever dump it in unison, right anon?

I like it when the markets are green, but EVERYONE saying tomorrow or this week will be green makes me think it's going dump like crazy tomorrow. Or does Clown World only apply when it's on your side of the argument?
