Certainly possible, I just think they'd be fighting an uphill battle in that regard. YFI is seen as the cream of the crop, people are emotionally invested in it right now because they think it is literally perfect. They are going to have to convince a lot of people to change the protocol to something they didn't buy into. Would almost certainly split their community and backfire.
