Do you even make more profit that way?

What's interesting is that he bought even more shares the second time around at the higher price. He must not care that it went to 8.6 and in fact think the company is incredibly undervalued even at 8.6 to buy that much. I did the math and the total investment he made was roughly $50 million. Given that he is a supposedly a billionaire, with listed networth ranging from 600mil-2bil this is not like he is going "all in" or anything, and if his average cost basis is 7.5 he has already made enough to exit. The question is still though, with almost a 10% stake he has a lot of leverage over the board and the direction of the company so what is his plan? It's like he doesn't want to be fully the CEO but wants enough leverage to tell them how to fix the company.

that move was just a stunt, probably as part of a deal with the board members to boost shareholder confidence? He didn't have to file for that at all, it was a change less than 1%
And again, not being more than 10% right now is not necessarily because he doesn't want to, but because there are SEC regulations that make hostile takeovers difficult. That's why people are speculating on a potential tender offer from Ryan Cohen, but the board probably won't accept anything lower than $20/share so we haven't seen anything yet

Not that anon but I've seen everyone on reddit suggest investing in semiconductors and they've all been wrong about everything (for two months at least) except 1 person

Idk, aren't semiconductors priced in at this point? It's like MSFT did 3x the last year, does that mean you invest in MSFT now and get 3x?

Bear in mind I'm retarded.

Well, alright.

I was trading quite actively and even went out to buy guns when the Chyna flu hit. I went to gun stores and most were at like 40% if that of inventory. Eventually after I bought 2 guns, it hit me that SWBI and a few others hadn't gone up yet, but their earnings should be significant.

So I bought a larger than normal amount (for my portfolio at that time) of calls dated past their earnings and a number of shares as well to hedge out some of the risk. The good news was, they also ended up doing a spin off (or something to that effect. So it went from AOBC to SBWI for me, and that added into it.

At one point my calls were up about 650% alone, but I got greedy, so I pulled them at about 358% (IIRC), shares did well too.

Samsung is falling behind, can't do volume production on 5nm, trying to skip 3nm which will almost certainly end in disaster when they can't even get proper yields on 5nm. Transistor density is also behind so their 5nm is closer to TSM's 7nm. Intel is outsourcing to TSM now because Intel is retarded and is sticking to immersion lithography for some retarded reason even though they have access to ASML's EUVL equipment too. GlobalFoundries has dropped out of the race a couple years ago already and isn't a competitor.
TSM is growing to be a monopoly and no one can do anything about it, even China outside of outright starting a war with US for Taiwan. Chinese semiconductor companies are cucked out of western semiconductor tools/equipment, they cannot catch up to Intel never mind TSM.
ASML is not going to sell to China ever, ASML's R&D for EUVL was only possible through the support of the leading semiconductor manufacturers and China is not going to get a piece of it

now add that on top of TSM's more recent news that they have a proper roadmap to 3nm and 2nm. Roadmaps are everything in tech/semiconductors and it's the reason people can reasonably specualte in AMD's growth for the next 3 years because Intel is fucking SHIT and has basically conceded its expiring contracts for the next 3 years as it doesn't have 7nm as those contracts expected them too (not just server market share, this extends to shit like the Aurora supercomputer too).
AAPL, NVDA, AMD, QCOM, etc are all reliant on TSM's supply. TSM is not at the mercy of fluctuating demand like other semiconductor companies which are cyclical (see MU) because everyone is thirsty for their capacity. TSM's growth is only limited by the fact that it takes years to build new foundries from scratch which is why it's crabbing half the time. The Arizona plant will only be completed by 2023 for example.

etc etc etc, do your DD

yields are everything in this game. Too many flaws and the wafer's useless. That's kinda how AMD rose to prominence thanks to their chiplet design to cut costs, but in hindsight i dont think they even need that with TSM's yields

their strong fundamentals are very apparent when their yields are even better on 5nm than on 7nm. It's so good they managed to grow as fast as fucking microsoft despite being a manufacturer that you expect to have shittier margins than your usual tech company

Yes if they hit the strike price and you exercise them. The "advantage" of options over owning shares is leverage, but all that means is you will lose money faster than normal for most people. There is a reason you rarely see people who sell options ever getting justed.
The rest of your questions are a little too in depth to type out. Use investipedia for that.

>What determines Market Value, especially in companies that are extremely liquid?
There is 'fair value', which is a number you can calculate. Other things like price/earnings, price/book, etc. However, in live fire market conditions a lot of that goes out the window and you wind up at whatever market is willing to pay at whatever time. 'Overvalued' is usually loosely determined by p/e ratio way outside the sector average for the company. Like Tesla at its recent high.
>Who the hell loses so much if you're making money on swing trades and day trading?
Go in too hard on something and eat shit. Worse, double down after you eat shit to try to Martingale your way out.
>How are dividends determined? Do you have to be vested at a certain time or for a certain length of time?
Check out investopedia for this one.
>Where can I do my own research on companies to find info on whether dividends are available or on what they do?
It will say on the quote pay for the stock whether it pays a dividend or not. This information is also shown on any stock chart type site. Look for 'dividend yield'. For general research, peruse the links in the OP. Also don't forget to look at the company's own website.
>How does a company's market value affect them on a quarterly basis if all the money is transferred between traders and brokerages?
Executives and some employees own shares. The market cap of a company is also important for merger and acquisition deals. This is a really broad question though.

Covering refers to buying back shares to close your short position. When shorters pile on faster than they cover it means that more short positions are opened than they are closed which increases the short interest. However, the most recent Ortex data shows that short interest has been decreasing which makes it more likely that its the other way round (more short positions were closed than were opened)

Not really. Price may dip relative to the dividend amount on ex dividend date though. However if there is some news or other thing going on at the time, the dividend is going to be far down the list of things determining price action for the day.

I'm not the anon who is always talking about a GME short squeeze, just explaining why in the online echo chamber is seems like 'everyone' is long when that might now be the case.
I don't hold any GME share or options.

How the hell does an analyst determine the day or [insert timeframe] market value aside from Mass broadcasted newsfeeds that tell literally everyone what's going on? Or for smaller companies for that matter that don't get news broadcasts.

look i grabbed a few 100% percent gains from that ticker... if I had bought the $5 leaps instead of just taking a 40 cent gap up, yeah i'd have made more money.. Thiis thread is for cutthroats, and the more exuberant people are about a particular investment vehicle that isn't super conservative like buy SPY, sometimes you even get the asshole conservatives bitching about what's better, but my strategy has been simple. 0%NAK 0%SPY 0%FUCK YOU AIN'T BOGGEN ME and 100% Thoughts and prayers to the First Family.

Hmm... I think your confusion may be about how shares trade and how price moves. The 'market price' is the most recent price shares were traded at. There are two columns of orders; the buy side (bid) and the sell side (ask). The small gap between the highest bid and the lowest ask is called the spread. When you buy using a market order you are buying at whatever the lowest ask price is at that moment. When you sell with market order you are selling at highest bid price. There is a finite number of shares on offer for any given price on the bid/ask list. If you want to buy 100 shares at market but only 50 are on offer at the lowest price you buy 50 at the lowest, then you buy another 50 at the next price up. Opposite for selling. People and computers are constantly shifting orders around during the trading session. Watching level 2 (the order columns) move in real time on a high volatility stock can be... eye opening. Stuff jerks around all crazy.

This is how share price on the market moves. It's not about anyone dictating a particular price based on some kind of value metric.

It kinda does, but by going off your post alone, theoretically the market value wouldn't really increase. Where does that growth come from? Because if it was just people trading mins and maxes back and forth, theoretically the price would only increase due to inflation. What incentives exist to encourage people to invest long term? Do they only do it because it's on their mind? Is it because they think the company will do well and dividends or other non-trading shenanigans will be profitable? If it's JUST that then that opens a whole fucking can of worms about the ethics of advertising in news in yet another department.
