The fact that dividends are paid regularly and that the underlying's price is adjusted according to dividend paid makes cutting off bad divvy stocks a large cost to the investor, because part of your expected gains for the year included slight positive growth roughly following inflation on the underlying as well as dividends. If you don't receive the dividends on a monthly, and you only know about it 2 weeks in advance, that's at best 2 weeks of money lost. If it's quaterly, 3 months minus 2 weeks, if it's biannual... so in any case it fucks you far more than you think, because on top of that the price of the underlying will dump on the news (and typically a bit earlier because of insiders).
The fact is, divvies are only good if your portfolio is 8+ figures, and not because of gains or raw returns, but because you couldn't sell shares equivalent to the divvy returns within the interval between 2 divvy returns legally, because your stack is too big and it would count as market manipulation.
