My friend made a successful trade and he got mad at me when he was bragging to me about it and I told him "survivorship bias". He said "I was right bro! I told you!", and then I said "just luck". Then he told me I was just jealous of his gains.

Was I wrong? To me, being successful only counts if you've got data to confirm your biases. Without the data, you're just lucky.

It’s been happening a lot lately but here’s my latest.
>buy push lawnmower from shart mart
>lawnmower doesn’t work
>take it back to return it
>fat black bitch says I can’t return it unless I drain the oil and gas
>I tell her I wouldn’t have known it didn’t work unless I put oil and gas in it
>she says it doesn’t matter that’s the policy
>I tell her let me talk to someone above her pay grade
>pudgy balding white manager with glasses comes over
>I explain to him and says the same shit
>I get angry and tell him it shouldn’t be my responsibility
>he says they have no where to drain
>now I really rage the fuck out
>”THERES A FUCKING AUTO CENTER IN THIS WALMART GO DRAIN IT THERE”
>he’s a smug faggot and refuses
>I roll lawn mower out to parking lot and pour the gas and oil out in parking lot
>roll it right back in
>get refund
The fucked up part is the dude in the lawn center told me that had been happening with several of those lawnmowers after I already returned it.

Definitely, trends are trends for a reason and the expectation is that the trend continues. However, you have no clue how long this trend will last. So unconfident people sit on the sidelines, wait for 10 events that they predict correctly to be true, and they then act. The 11th event turned out to not be true. Now they've got losses.

Options traders are usually too greedy to allow for the fail safes that would prevent them from taking significant losses.

Always, always, always sell with 30-45 days left on contract. Unless there is a world shattering catalyst on the way and you're already down 90%.

Besides that, if you average down on a very long call, while taking profit from opposing puts you can sell those calls with a month left in expiry, and you'll have made a profit even if technically selling at a 50% loss.

Okay two things:
1. Only trade things that are in an overall rising long term trend. If you zoom out to monthly candles and it's a steady climb up with some bumps in the road from notable market instability periods, that's the kind you want. Do not trade stuff with a flat long term trend and definitely not a downwards long term trend.
2. Stop trading small caps if you're doing so.
3. Stop trading options if you are. Don't return to options until you have a better feel for price action.
4. Use a basic indicator like MACD or Stochastic RSI or something to give you a general idea of what the stock is doing. Don't buy in when that indicator is screaming at you not to.
5. Be patient and expect drawdown. I have a pretty good system of indicators for swing trading. Thoroughly tested and proven backtested and live fire for some years now. Even with that I still have to expect some drawdown after I enter. Sometimes it can be as much as 10% depending on how volatile the thing is. Sometimes I'm sitting there for weeks waiting for something to happen before the thing hits the gas or drops enough to stop me out.

So! Be more measured in your approach. Be more patient. Stop trying to chase stuff.

So there is an element of self-awareness. Ever thought of something you think is unique and then suddenly you see it fucking everywhere? Okay, well see, humans globally, are probably at max thinking like 1000 different things. Out of billions of people, we're usually sharing similar thoughts. We just aren't nearly as unique or creative as we would like to believe.

So when you have an "idea" keep in mind that someone is already enacting that "idea". So in some ways you have to work against yourself, reject yourself. Figure out how similar you are to other humans. That degree of similarity will help you choose when you buy or sell. Maybe you do it counter to your intuition. Maybe you do it right in line with your intuition. The algos have really got retail traders by the balls. Badly.

any "naked short sellers" will have to close out by this friday or next monday depending on how the exact stuff around the settlement date works

S3 however https://www.shortsight.com/short-interest-of-float-2-0/
claims that the naked short selling is negligible and its just shares being lent out multiple times.
so who knows when this will pop off.

>When looking at a stock such as Gamestop Corp (GME) the SI % of Float is 133.75% while the S3 SI % of Float is 57.22%.
>A number over 100% is illogical and can only be explained by improper activity on the short side such as “naked shorting” since there are not enough long shares to supply the stock borrows needed to support the reported short selling activity.
>But when using the S3 SI % of Float of 57.22% we can make logical conclusions based on a more realistic number.

>First, we are nearing the top end of SI % of Float as it is very rare to have more than 60% of Float + Synthetic Longs in a stock’s lending pool.
>Second, at a 57.22% S3 SI % Float coupled with a logically correlated 33% stock borrow fee we can make the assumption that there is not much stock borrow supply left in the stock and if the S3 SI % of Float increases, rates will increase at an exponential rate on the relatively small amount of new stock borrows that are still available to take down.

>And third, the chances of a short squeeze in the name is very high.

So at minimum only 0.5% of shares will be bought, in reality we have no idea because the number of shares under failure to deliver are not known. They could also use some jewish magic to borrow shares from someone else and return those to the original lender without having to buy anything
