Renovation for equity is not worth it for the most part. But I think renovating for your own comfort is something you guys are forgetting. You spend so much time in your house, why not make it comfy. Things like a nice garden, clean kitchen, good bathroom etc will do wonders for your health and mind.

For the average person who just wants to stay in the cogs, work without too much effort, renovation just makes too much sense. Not everyone has the drive to dump that $20k into something else to make more money. Not everyone has the time to, or the chance to risk it either.
