22818782 No.22818782 [Reply] [Original]

friendly reminder that if you're "working" from home, your job is likely redundant, and you should look into a new career path

if you can work from home, it's very likely that your job is redundant, the amount of lay offs coming when companies realize this is going to be astronomical

because it's going to be abundantly clear how pointless so many jobs are, at least when people had to show up to work it gave the illusion things were getting done, now the rug will pulled out

companies will start introducing more monitoring/restrictions on computer use, because they will think that productivity is down simply because of WFH, after further investigation they will realize a lot of these jobs were pointless to begin with

combine that with seniority and unions collapsing and there you go

Not for me. I'm the best in my industry due to my autism and attention to detail. And I purposely settle for a low salary so I'm seen as a good value for the company and less likely to get replaced. That's the key. A 50k salary is just as effective as a 200k if you're good at trading crypto and saving money. High salaries are unironically a huge meme.

Okay, that's cool. I hate my job anyway. If everyone gets fired en masse then I know I'll be in the same boat as everyone else and won't really care. You actually described best case scenario to me, OP.

But something tells me I'll be one of the last let go because they already use me to write scripts that automate other people's jobs anyway.

UBI is pretty much going to become necessary within a few years because of the virus.

Most people contribute very little to their places of work, the value tends to derive from a very small cluster of people, the rest just coattail.

Does that large corporate office need 25% of its personal to be exclusively dealing with HR? No, especially because most of them are women and they need other women to cover all the maternity leave and boost the diversity quotas.

Its going to be a bloodbath.

Yeah, half of the time I look at what coworkers do and realize that almost none of their tasks requires human execution. Especially when they're taking a full 10 minutes to
>open an email
>open attached spreadsheet
>click back into email
>go into inbox
>scroll up and down through a flood of spam junk mail, complete with retailer subscriptions and bank statements even though it's a fucking corporate email
>finally find their target email
>manually type numbers from email 2 into the spreadsheet (or if they copy and paste, they'll use the right click method and take forever to click every option, also will do 1 cell at a time)
>save spreadsheet to their desktop
>close excel
>look on their desktop that's littered with 6 gorillion random excel files and PDFs
>manually look up and down for their fucking file they just saved
>open outlook again
>manually scroll backup to email 1
>get distracted partway into it because of the advertisement spam email telling them about a SICK NEW DEAL AT MACY'S
>Go back into inbox
>scroll for email 1
>find it, hit "reply all"
>minimize outlook again
>drag Excel file into mail body
>"Complete. :) Regards,"
>clicks signature button on the toolbar
>attaches signature to email
>Hits send

And then they do it again maybe 30 minutes later. It's fucking amazing. They're getting paid more than me btw. I'm often tasked with automating shit that I see is inefficient around the workplace but there's so much inefficient shit that if I truly did my job everyone would be fucking fired. So o just do nothing all fucking day and occasionally write something for big issues people can't resolve on their own.

I think the opposite will happen. I think more people will find ways to slack off during the day, but act busy by sending emails late at night, or scheduling random zoom calls. But the real work won't be getting done, and managers will freak out, and higher more people to sit on pointless zoom calls.
