how come I can't afford to buy a house by the time I'm 20 like my grandfather did?

Because of inflation and the removal of the gold standard.

Men bought houses when they start families. But the nuclear family is dead. women are whores and don't want to settle down and make a home/start a family because thats considered to be oppreshon.

Also an apartment in my area costs 500,000 USD where they used to cost 150,000 in the 90's when my dad was first starting out.

Its called geographic mobility. Imagine being envious of an overpriced town house.

>> No.22727266

Because your dad and his friends thought it would be a good idea to use housing as their retirement fund and screwed you and your friends over. You got fleeced by your parents and boomers.

I can understand it being a harder choice to move away from actually great friends and family.

For my tech career, leaving Ohio was an easy choice. Firstly, all my friends spread across the globe: dallas, seattle, brazil, california, nyc, etc.

Then, more importantly, I had a narcissistic mother + enabler/codpendent father, among a family with multiple people seeking out their 2nd or even 3rd spouse. I reckon daddy/mommy issues are why most of us are here on this board.

boy you just nailed it. My mom is a HUGE cunt. She caused many years of heart wrenching heartache in our house. While dad enabled the behavior by not dealing with it because he would catch her wrath too. I will never understand why people have children and then choose to fuck them up. Its such a shitty thing to do.

Because in 1960 houses were only worth a year's salary and it was this way until maybe the 1980s when it was double a year's salary. Since then the boomers have turned basically everything into a scam for their retirement, which is why feeling bad about scamming boomers is a chump's game.

Most people aren't financially literate enough to realize this, but removal of the gold standard has actually made it easier to get rich if you know what you're doing.

>make like 25 grand a year net freelancing
>only spend money on groceries, health insurance, rent for my mother, and student loans
>manage to save a little bit each month, but it's a drop in the bucket
>mom foisted my student loans off on me because she "can't afford them" after getting a $50,000 inheritance from her father that she spent on some windows and wall paint
>tells me I need to "live in the real world" and that I have 3 months to find a place to live
>says I'll figure out how to make money since she did when she was my age
She used to proudly tell everyone that she was paying for my college education before making me sign off and pay it. I even tried to take frugal options back then because it seemed absurd to pay extra to live on campus, but she insisted because it was on her dollar.

Sorry for the blog, I just die inside looking at the housing market and realizing how fucking priced out I am. When is this shit going down? Who the fuck can afford these prices?

population explosion, increased construction regulation, artificially low interest rates for decades.

it's kind of amusing when i look at price histories on houses in my shithole town in the suburbs of philly. population has actually decreased over the past 20-30 years, crime and poverty have gone up, middle class jobs have disappeared, and city itself (philly) is still a festering nigger shithole. yet a house that sold for $120-150k back in 2000-2003 now sells for $270-300k if not more. if you believe the CPI, the greatest jewish lie ever told, inflation from 2000 to 2020 is only about 50%.
