Let me add some coder perspective on NFTs, NFTs are db schemas. They allow you to define a table and the columns. They allow foreign keys. They allow cross table lookups, joins, etc.

NFTs are the schemas of defi.

From the comments I see, general consensus is NFT = rarity. I disagree. NFT = structure. It does not inherently create scarcity. Da Vinci could have painted 100 Salvator Mundi's, but he didn't. Artist intent creates scarcity.

NFT allows insurance, options, bonds, assets, etc
