People who can afford a portfolio of speculative investment properties to rent out to wealthy vacationers are not middle class, and they suck up all the property that could be being sold to aspirational young 20/30-something who want to join the middle class. Leading to skyrising property valuations and rents and further impoverishing anyone who didn't already have their fingers in the real estate pie circa 2010 or earlier.

You don't build the middle up by creating a permanent underclass of renters who have to suffer 10% annual rent hikes forever.

To me, it seems tied to the current political landscape - there is little room for expanded government spending (we are already running the largest deficit in history) making it less likely that the contracts will happen anytime soon

We just saw the big fight the post office had to go through for funding / now it's a political event to fund the post office.. in other words, if you're Republican you support less money for the post office, and Democrat more money for the post office.. the post office has now become a partisan issue (which is ridiculous)

In such highly charged political times, it seems unlikely (to me) that a deal will happen before the election is over; if Biden were elected it would become more likely than if Trump were elected [due to Democrat tendency towards environmentalism / increased spending]

Also consider more abstractly what the long term prospects of a city are when all the people who live in it are short-term airbnbers with zero roots. It erodes community and turns the city into a shitass corporatized vacation town.

Cool, thanks. I don't have a side to this one, think it's difficult to tell if the extent of the lockdown was justified because there's too much not known about coronachan, both in March and still now. Just looking at acute death rates and comparing them to acute economic disruption is only one facet of the picture, there are so many long haulers coming out of the woodwork now who have confirmed permanent organ damage even if they only had mild symptoms. A lot depends on how much weight you give to the precautionary principle in situations like this.

don't forget you spend money on electricity/gas to cook as well. And you should be valuing your time at something, so factor in the time cost to cook as denominated in USD as well.

I've done this calc on a few occasions cooking simple meals and I usually come up at break fucking even vs a basic fast casual meal which is usually a slightly more complex dish and seasoned better too (because they have millions of dollars worth of kitchen testing baked into the product to make sure it tastes optimal, whereas I'm just following a random recipe or guessing).

When I realized this I started eating out / doing takeout 4-5x a week. I spend $100-150 more every month but I save about 5 hours of cooking time and the food is simply tastier than what my dumb ass would make.

Obviously if cooking is fun for you or if there's a social aspect (you're cooking FOR someone) then the equation can change a lot, but as a single autistic NEET neither of those things apply for me.

These are Texas prices:

Burger Meat 3lb $5
Buns $1
Cheese $1-1.50
Ketchup bottle $1
2 lbs of precut fries $1.50
2 liters of soda $1

$11 if you add the soda and fries.

start selling in chunks if and when the squeeze is obvious. It'll be very fucking obvious, just don't sell on the first day of +100% because the margin call liquidations wouldn't have peaked by then yet. The signal for the peak is a trading halt, just like how KODAK could only get as high as $60.00 before it halted. Real infinity squeezes (as in entire order book getting bought out) can't happen because of those circuit breakers so don't be retarded on limit sells at $1000 or something

What are people doing between now and the election? Or even after that, mainly looking for mid-to-long term plays to recover from the absolute buttfucking from the last month. I keep seeing lumber futures outperform basically everything else but at least for the last week or so my NAIL and LL haven't been overly kind. I bought back into FNGU because I do honestly think the FAGMAN stocks will continue up but it's hard watching it swing so hard.

Anyone got any long term recovery plays they're banking on? My strongest one so far has been SKYW but I was considering BAC and HIBL

What I don't understand is the very concept of not knowing how to cook. If I want to eat butter chicken, I
- Order butter chicken from the restaurant
- Eat butter chicken
- Look up a recipe online
- Cook my own butter chicken, tweaking during the cooking process until it tastes similar to the one I bought
- ???
- Enjoy
I never really "learned to cook" yet no matter what food I make, it turns out far better than at restaurants (short of special or fancy stuff of course, home-made pizza is tasty but it's not the same as real wood-oven pizza, although home-made lasagna is far better than I've ever tasted in any restaurant, not even comparable). I end up making my butter chicken for $4 or so, yet the same portion costs $15 minimum at a restaurant (and that excludes tip and the possible delivery fee).

Because nobody believed his lies about "we're gonna spike inflation!!"

He's probably gonna come out and restate it even more strongly to try to convince the bond market. It won't work.. He'll also BEG for congress to pass more fiscal stimulus because he knows he is powerless

They are scared as fuck about the coming DEflationary spiral, that's why he's going into overdrive trying to convince people that broad-based CPI inflation is coming. What happens when the moratoriums and deferrals are lifted? Renters go bust, landlords go bust, banks go bust, funds and firms counterparty to the CDS swaps and MBS (especially CMBS) go bust...

DISCLAIMER: I know that (((CPI))) doesn't include the shit that average joes actually need to buy. It's the broad-based core-PCE deflator (which factors into GDP calculation) that drives monetary policy, when talking heads talk about inflation that's what they mean, broad-based not pockets here and there like groceries

Because the bond market is the real market. Equitylets can't compare.

What's really going on is that banks are NOT lending to anyone despite the near-zero rates. Just like last September (before covid was even a thing) when the whole system almost blew up again, big banks are risk averse right now because they are the smart money and they know what's really coming.

They want to spark up lending again, because our whole system is nothing but a debt-based ponzi scheme, and you cannot taper a ponzi scheme (as late-2018 showed). You have to keep feeding it more and more debt (new loans) every single year otherwise the whole thing comes crashing down.

As interest rates move down it should theoretically spark demand for new loans. Think about mortgage rates on houses, combined with the covid rush out of cities that's a big part of why we're seeing a short-term housing boom in certain markets.

Fed would like to see this demand actually translate into more lending because it will reflate the bubble. However on a broad basis banks are not doing that, lending is stagnant or going down.

After the sell-offs the past few weeks (which were overdue & 100% deserved) it seems unlikely that it'll continue into Monday - it has gone down too fast in too short a time frame

I went long TQQQ on Friday @$113 as I believed that institutions had now balanced their portfolios on quadruple witching day / if they were going to continue selling off on Monday I don't think the bounce would have occurred as it did after lunch hour ended (if we had seen a bounce and then sell-off into close, I would have sold before markets closed)
I believed Monday will be a 1-2% green day

However.. since then we've had different news breaking that may have changed things:
>RBG death (uncertainty bearish)
>Europe countries going into lockdown (bearish)
>TikTok deal (deescalation of trade-war = bullish)

It still seems that we're likely to see a bounce on Monday, as if it were a super red Monday it would make the whole week bleed HARD (and they can't have that!) A false hope rally is what I think is going to happen

I could be totally wrong though, and get fucked hard Monday.

>You losers, you can't even keep your bull market up for a month without my help!
>Fine, I'll give you more QE, but you better get out of my sight right away afterwards... ugh, I knew Jpow-chan would spoil you...

Tomorrow's going to be green, the candles on weekend wallstreet are looking really promising.

So I hold a bunch of $90 AAPL puts for 10/02. If I want to sell them right now, is it smarter to sell a bunch of puts at $85 or whatever to get a small profit and then hold my $90s as a lotto ticket?
I was also thinking if it wasn't going to drop that low, if I made a profit tomorrow and the $85 put goes to .01 I could buy those back and then sell the $90s at .1 or whatever and probably make up the difference between the price on Monday morning.
It seems like the only risk is losing unrealized gains if AAPL were to drop below $85 which seems really unreasonable

What about petrochemicals like Bayer (Monsanto)? People need to eat, in any case.
