Is there anything more comfy than generating money while you lay around all day?

no

What's the initial startup cost to make bitcoin mining worth it?

>> No.2260331

>>2260313
yeah a mining general thread would be nice for questions like this

Whats your hardware?

>> No.2260395

>>2260355
2x Xeon 2697v3 for xmr
3x GTX 980 w/ custom bios for ETH
1x GTX 1060 for ETH
and several random CPUs/GPUs that are like at 120% break even for xmr (i5-2400, i5-2500, GTX 680, 2x RD7850)

I was mining 100% eth but there has been a huge shift in the mining rate last week. I like xmr too.

oh and an i5-3570k for xmr

Too much for average joe, gpu mining on the other hand is pretty comfy right now.

I'm already using my GPU to mine, would it be worth it to mine something on my i3-6100 as well?

those CPU are insanely expensive
how much you earning per day?

>> No.2260575

>>2260537
About $50 at current prices. If I do a historical lookup on the price increases since I started mining it's probably closer to $100 or $150.

I've mined for a long time, I made a lot of money in the 2012 era (was one of the first big time CPU miners of XPM) then lost interest until the ASIC-resistant coins starting gaining traction again.

Two years ago I was upset I didn't just drop out of grad school and build a mining farm but in retrospect now I could never have competed with nationalized chinese electricity and covert ASICBOOST so I'm glad I stuck with my career

I'll just add that I've learned that the best hobbies are the ones that make you money

It's like having multiple careers without jumping from job to job

do you think AMD Ryzen Threadripper 16c 32t will be good for CPU mining? its rumored to cost $849

I'm curious about that bios mod for GTX 980, is it similiar to radeon bios mods that modify memory timings ?

>> No.2260707

>>2260676
yes

In fact it's the only way to OC with compute cards in linux

The only bios modding software is for windows though so you will need to extract with nvflash on linux, transfer to windows, mod, and then reflash on linux.

As a result of the BIOS mods and self-compiling xmr-stak with native arch optimizations, I have the fastest 980s on the monero benchmark site

they will outperform a $2k Intel Xeon, yes

But most algos are on GPUs nowadays and should cost 1/2 the price for a similar hashrate

Do you mind sharing a method on how to do it ? I no longer have any maxwell cards, but I haven't seen anyone else modding bioses on them for mining.

>> No.2260760

>>2260727
it's really as easy as extracting the bios with nvflash and modding with MaxwellBiosTweaker and then reflashing

You shouldn't use someone else's ROM though, that's the biggest mistake people make. As a starting point, copy over some stable OC and voltage values from a vetted BIOS like Joe Dirt's or AIRv2 into your oem ROM as a starting point and then try to push your memory a little higher.

I should also mention that I don't mess with trying to max performance/kwh since my electricity is subsidized
