What does "making it" mean in your own terms? My perfect world doesn't necessarily match your own.

>> No.22585723

Enough to buy a nice house in the countryside or a nice small town (one that is not crawling muslim refugees). I would say £3 million at least.

Unfortunately I already jumped ship and moved out of the UK. At least for now. Having dual citizenship (UK and Japan) is pretty convenient.

Personally:
> Brought a studio flat, morgage is fully paid
> £600 a month for all expenses including water, electric, food, internet, etc...
> Yearly expenditure for me is currently £7200

As such making it for me would be about £300,000 covering roughly 40 years at my current expenditure with a little extra to cover inflation. Chances are I'd be fine if I made 72,000 then I could spend 10 years living life how I desire before just ending it all if I was still stuck in the UK.

I'm about the same, but I'd like a 2 bed apartment, so let's say £500,000. The only thing is moving back to my shitty hometown feels like I've admitted defeat.

I grew up abroad and have seen much of the world for what it is, calling the UK my home long-term would feel like a defeat, I'd like to live in Canada or Australia for a couple years just to say I tried it.

Don't spend your entire life chasing a 'make it' amount and forget to live anon. Take time for yourself sooner rather than later.

>>22585878
If moving back to the shitty hometown means you can relax for a while without stress then surely it's worth considering?

It's more of a suggestion/posturing, when I went to renew my jap passport at the London embassy at the age of 26 they didn't even question it. I think it's due to 2 separate government ministries that deal with immigration/citizenship or some bullshit and the lack of communication or rather, increased level of bureaucracy involved means that they don't even care about it. They literally couldn't care less.

I've lived in Nagoya for 18 months, but next month I'll be moving to Tokyo for a job. Been doing software engineering the whole time, no teaching, thank god.

Are you fluent in Japanese? I’ll basically just work on my novels all day and not be in the work force. Is that a problem there or do they like artists?
