The games industry? Usually you'll find oversaturation by trend chasers, but if you make a good game people will always praise you for it and you'll make your money back usually, (It helps that costs can be kept ludicrously cheap).
Big studios are falling apart nowadays, indie is and always will be the future. Hell even modding is starting to become a marketable landscape.

C# (unity), steam is very easy to get listed on. You can slap a lot of shit in there. They had a lot of trouble with shovelware for a while.
I had my game featured on blogs like rock, paper shotgun and a couple of other sizable blogs. Issue is the market is flooded.
Getting noticed is hard and getting sales is harder. Mind you my game was fairly basic - 2D top down shooter so not highly eye catching. If I make another game it will be multiplayer, more dynamic and a lot nicer. Art is everything for attracting buyers.

Partly built it because a few friends wanted to build a game, they all flaked out so I just built an entire game myself to show them they were dicks and couldn't commit to a project. That really was the main motivation, then I really enjoyed the development process. Would crave getting home from work to code my project and would be up till 3am doing it.
Blog post over.

Only scripting like up, down, left, right etc will be automated by machine learning. More complex scripting will be in part made by IA and part made by chinks slaves.

But modeling is another story, we can use IA to scan, to have something to work, but most of work will be by man itself.

>> No.22536620

there are still good indie games being made, but holy shit, talk about an over saturated market. even if you make something good, you have to contend with the 30 other unplayed indie games everyone already has in their steam library.

even boardgames have gone the same way, although at least there, i think the developer has a better understanding that the core gameplay mechanic needs to be elegant. a lot of indie videogames have lost that.

someone just needs to make Alpha Centauri with Age of Empires 1/2 Definitive Edition

>> No.22536738

Board games are even more niche I dont understand why so many games are being made for such a small demogtaphic especially considering you only need one copy for a group of multiple people.

>> No.22536862

>>22536738

part of it, oddly enough, is scalability, or lack thereof. making a videogame has high upfront costs, but scales infinitely once made (unless there's online stuff to support). but most games don't sell that much, so the benefit from scaling may never be realized. a boardgame can be developed quicker and at lower cost, and is more likely to return a profit at low volumes. Selling 25k boardgames is going to be more profitable than 25k videogames, assuming similar levels of efficiency by the developers.

I think that the game industry is pretty dead. You can make it but I think you'd really have to bust ass. Like so many ideas have been explored and implemented. You will never be able to make the next DOOM. I feel like the big booms for game devs were in the mid 90s, where you could start something like DOOM in your garage. Or 2009 - 2011. Not too much indy dev competition. Lots of stuff hasn't been explored yet, so releasing something like Binding of Issac or Minecraft doesn't have a million clones of it with a few changes on the market. I think after 2014/15 it becomes pretty tough. Still doable though, but like I said you have to work hard af. Even AAA development has been stale since 2017. The last wave of original games was around 2015 - 2017. Nothing new has come out since.

Thats crazy, but makes sense. I actually have an idea for a small soloable card game that takes after the simplicity of Dominion. Not too many fiddly parts, its what I personally disliked about some LCGs. Wonder if I could find a market for it if I make it.

>>22536893
why can't you get the same with videogames? pretty unfair.
