lets get a new frugal/ money saving thread going. I don't care about normal stuff like growing your own veg, riding a bike to work or using coupons. whats the weird shit you do?

In the morning I shit just before a shower to save toilet paper and I piss and wash my hands in the shower to save water. I always shit at work. If I need another piss at home in the day I go in the garden, If I need a shit I walk to the Vegan cafe down the street and don't buy anything.

I changed every lightbulb in the house to LED, added half a brick to every toilet tank to reduce the water. Save every processor, ram stick and heat sync I find in the ewaste pile at the dump. I crush every popcan and save it to make money. I collect other people's empties.

I take the cans to a recyclers, essentially I fill barrels with the cans and take several full barrels at a time. I've thought about making a machinen to crush them but that would probably cost too much money. I've been saving the ram and processors for about 20 years now and have never recovered the gold. I have 12 Intel Pentium Pros in my collection. I would someday like to recover all of the gold with acids etc. I also save graphics cards and motherboards with built in graphics chips because I know there is plenty of gold in those too.

I used to work at a gym on a US Army base in Germany. Unlike other civilians, I was not given housing allowance, so had to pay ridiculous german rent prices. The gym job was cozy and I was completely unsupervised. I had experimented with spending a few days and overnights in the gym. I gradually sold all of my shit and one month just abandoned my apartment and built a cozy space in the attic utility room. I lived there for about 9 months.

Gym obviously had showers, electricity, heating, and had the free MWR wifi and cable. I kept my cloths between a few lockers. We had a full kitchen in our breakroom. On base was the commissary and 24/7 PX-tra (gas station). I would usually do the nightshifts, so just lock up and go up to bed. I'd get up around 4am before the morning shift and go sleep in my car for a bit.

I saved around $17k in those 9 months.

go to a food pantry. literally free groceries for two weeks. I guarantee your uni has one too.

live around miniorities and rent two rooms. they destroy pricing in real estate.

go donate plasma for cash. this could net a few grand per year and its worth your time per hour.

if you shop at Walmart, make sure to swap food for less expensive equivalents. get honeycrisp apples and charge them as the cheapest fruit. be careful though, if you miswipe and item and cancel it. an employee will come over and scan every item for you. you could get caught this way. they might not give a shit. just play dumb. you can save like 20 to 30 bucks doing this.

don't eat out. for real dude, you can spend like $15 on shit you could just make yourself. most of these restaurants are complete fucking scams. mcdonalds is not fast food, it takes 15 to 30 mins realistically to get the meal.

drive a cheap ass toyota corrolla. don't fucking buy 20 year old jeeps cuze its badass or something.

Speaking of frugal, in order to explain why I was always there, I would say I was in between university classes. I convinced everyone I was working on a masters degree from the public german university right next to the base. I was never enrolled but should have.

Free degree programs in english for international students who can provide their own residency. If you're american with a job on base you get SOFA status.

I use a cash rewards credit card for every expense like food, gas, bills, etc. My favorite card gives me back 2.5% so that's $375 saved if I spend $15,000 per year.

It's free money. I have auto payment set up so the balance gets paid off automatically every month. The only negative is if you're poor and unable to pay the balance when it's due. Then you start getting charged interest.

I've accumulated over a dozen credit cards because they have nice bonuses if you spend a certain amount within 3 months. My favorite is a USAA credit card that has a 2.5% cash reward.

There are entire websites out that show you the best cards based on your preferences. Bank of America or Amazon are good. Just search google.

Unless you need to drive and can profit heavily from driving, I think it's cheaper in the long run to just use ridesharing services.

It is pretty steep to pay $20 to be driven around by Uber/Lyft, but factor in all of the costs of owning a car and that shit really adds up
