I just read the thread on Twitter.

Each Arbitrum chain can choose its own parameters for challenge periods.

In that entire thread, Steven Goldfeder destroys Vitalik. Vitalik then stops responding as usual when he’s proven wrong. Such a fucking autist. And an insufferable faggot for not attending smart con.

This makes me more excited for Q1 2021 when Arbitrum solves the scalability issue and Vitalik will be left seething on Twitter.

I’m noticing that Vitalik often makes disingenuous statements masked with sophistry. This is similar to the time with Sergey when during a discussion on the use of oracles he intentionally misinterpreted Sergey’s point and said that oracles aren’t needed for cross chain communication and you can use merkle trees. Sergey couldn’t respond cause he’s not technical. However, Goldfeder on the other hand:

> First can we not assume that all Optimistic Rollup protocols have a sequencer? Arbitrum doesn’t and we believe it’s a fundamentally bad design.
> Second, I know people like to throw around one week [time for challenge periods], but we have modeling that it’s much lower
> Anyway to wrap up re my original point: There's a misconception in your post that links the liveness/withdrawal delay in ORU to the Sequencer, but the two are entirely separate.

The Sequencer, as its name suggests orders txs but doesn't help with the withdrawal delay. 1/

You’re a retard as the subject matter is simple it’s just contained within complex frameworks.

They’re discussing the duration of challenge periods, Vitalik says he’s “EXTREMELY scared” that Arbitrum is going to only have a challenge period of a matter of hours. He’s disingenuously ignoring the fact that this is an example and that time period is one of many parameters. Also, even if he was right, his language is childish.

you don't know how any of it works do you?
all optimistic rollups put all data on ethereum, they only scale computation. Both are limited by layer1. They can't charge any noticeable fees are people are going to move to another rollup (infinitely easier than moving between chains). Fees are going to be just a few percent above the cost of running a node.
All value accrues to the base layer, which is ethereum.

That's why optimism.io aims to earn income by ordering dex transactions to generate profit, relying on fees isn't workable

the tl;dr is that tokens for those scaling solutions have very low value, as 'miner extractable value' is very low, as people already learned to put tight slippage on trades during periods of non-congestion. It's pretty much a public utility, something best run by eth stakers as an additional service.

Low value? Nobody wants to buy another token go to another dapp then make a transaction. To much shit for me and I’ve been using eth for a bit. Even using meta mask pisses me off.
